Hello,
I'm new to this forum and would like to share this little story that has been bothering me for a while.
This is my first laptop purchase, and I have been itching to buy a lappy. Almost bought an hp for its cool looks and design but lacked the oomph i wanted, so when it came down to dell seemed to have best bang for the bucks. So I purchased a Inspiron 6400 (canada) /e1505(us).
t5300 1.73ghz 533mhz
2gb ram 533mhz
radeon x1400
1280x800 gloss
160gb 5400rpm
wireless n
bluetooth
total w/ tax ----> $1225 cdn
This was around 1st week of June.
Well I was a little disappointed with it, and as my 30 return was coming up I happen to check the dell.ca site...and BAM! the 1520's were released...I was pissed...i just bought a new laptop and 28 days later it was already obsolete!
So the next day I called dell and haggled with maybe about 6 different dell staff...3 return/exchange specialists, 2 parts reps, 1 customer care rep and 4 hrs later this is what happened:
I told them that I wanted to an exchange for the 1520 and I'd be willing to pay extra. But as per exchange policy it supposed to be like for like and would not do that, so I said f*** it i want a refund. The return guy definitely was trying to "save the sale" in his own words, first by offering to knock off $172 of the invoice, then offering speakers and whatnot......well turns out that my system was end of life or something...so he said that he could do an exchange.
I really wanted the better vid card, but he said he couldn't do it as per policy. So i was like forget it then...refund! Well then he said I'll upgrade you processor to an 1.8ghz and give a $100 off to close the deal on an exchage. Well I had been on the phone with this guy for 1hr already, and he wasn't sure about the exact parts..so I ended talking to some parts guy in Panama saying that the new 1520's only come configured with the 8600's. So I call return dept spoke to rep and closed the exchange.
new rig:
t7100
8600gt
2gb 667mhz
160gb
intel wifi
bluetooth
$100 dell coupon
well when i got my new 1520 the screen was no longer glossy, I got the t5250 1.5, and bluetooth was missing...wtf?
the monitor and bluetooth i could live with...but why the 1.5c2d? I agreed on the exchange because the 1.8c2d was part of the deal. Now I did get upgraded vidcard and ram...for the same price, but I keep thinking i could get a better rig configured for the same price. I actually called a rep for the specs, including the ref# for what was discussed and the rep said it was a 1.5 and the 1.8 was not confirmed? and it was already shipped so i couldn't cancel.
So my question is..should i suck it up and just keep this system, or should I complain to dell about this? Do i even still have any leverage with a return on this system? I did an exchange on the 30th day over the phone for the old laptop...so does this 1520 still have a 30day return too?
holy crap that was long...had to get this off my chest

I think that you really do not have a chance. Dell has one of the worse customer services I have in company's period. It took me nearly half a year for my system to come in and every time I called they said next week.

yeah...i was kinda leaning towards just keeping the system, just to avoid all the bull i'd have to go through in getting this settled. But it just makes me mad knowing, that i could get a better processor for the same price. Any idea if this system i have, has a return policy on it? You'd figure it would considering its a new rig, but considering that i exchanged for it...who knows?

How much is 1225 in terms of US dollars? I think you should try configuring the same 1520 computer in the online store and see if it comes to about the same price you paid for your 6400.
People on this forum have showed that the 1.5 ghz works very well, so I don't think that's a major issue. The issue here is customer service said offered thing but didn't keep their word. If that really bothers you, you can call a different rep and see if they will uphold the original offer?
Exchanged a 6400/e1505 for a Inspiron 1520 my story
