Hi there, i asked for an exchange about a week ago and the replacement should arrive tomoorow. I have a couple of questions hope someone can help.
1. I specifially asked that i given a brand new replacement and i wonder if there is a way to check whether if the the replacement is indeed new or used/refurbished.
2. If the replacement is worse than the one that I have, can i send the replacement unit back and keep the old one?
3. On the shipping label that they sent me there are some mistakes on it, the weight is wrong (should be 11lbs but it says 20lbs) and the decription of the content is wrong (should be an xps inspirion but the label says dimension notebook) I wonder if that matters at all, i don't want to send it back and get billed for 2 computers.
Thank you very much!!!

1.) You might be able to check using the service tag on Dell's support site: www.support.dell.com
2.) It shouldn't be "worse"; but you'd want to call Dell and tell them.
3.) Shipping weight is often off, don't let that concern you. My e1505 was 20 pounds while the xps m140 was 14. I don't know about the billing statement, again, you should call Dell. I doubt that it's a big thing, but with money involved, it's always best to double check. -
thanks for the quick reply, but for question number 1, where in support dell you can check whether if the computer is refurbished or new? btw i got mine in Canada thank you very much
-
The refurbished M1210 I received as a replacement for my 700M had a red sticker on the bottom stating that it was refurbished.
-
The shipping weight on my 1210 was a whopping 25 lbs !!! Obviously it was way off, but there is nothing to worry about.
In case you don't like the replacement, you can send both back to them for a refund, or make them send you a third one. -
As far as i know.... if you send it back for refund you lose money.... 15% restocking fee in Canada.... is it the same in US?

Thanks for the clarification Jokkon. let us know if you're replacement laptop arrives with free upgrades etc from dell ...
cheers -
No restocking fee if the laptop was messed up when you recieved it. -
i just got my new m1210
doesn't make that noise , yet. i'll keep u guys posted.
so far i think the keyboard feels a bit better to type on
i am glad that the sound is gone though, but then they didn't gimme any free upgrades =) oh well, btw does anyone know when i send my old computer back do i have to pay for shipping?
P.S also i got the hitachi harddirve this time, the old one had a seagate, the hitachi one is definitely much louder and has the weird clicking sound, but nothing that i can't cope with. anyway thanks for everyone for helping me on the forums u guys are awesome!! -
In the US they send you a call tag for your old laptop--I imagine they do something similar in Canada. If your original computer was defective, I would expect them to pay your return shipping.
-
yeah they sent me a shipping label but it doesn't say prepaid on it.
anyway i am just gonna swap the hitachi drive out and put the old drive in
gotta repartition the thing though -
I got the Hitachi in my replacement too. It's a lot louder than the Seagate, especially after I had performance mode enabled in BIOS. At first I wanted to swap the drives too, but after some benchmark testing, the Hitachi is faster than the Seagate. Couple reviews from the web confirmed this finding. So at the end, I kept the Hitachi, I prefer performance over noise
As for shipping back to Dell, it's free. They didn't even send me any label. I called them up and they send me an email with a link to print a shipping label. I then put it on the box and dropped it off at UPS.
