I was asking many questions about the delay on my lappy to a Dell CSR through Chat, and he said he would forward my order number and expedite. He said that means it will move the process along faster for me once the LCD screen is off of backorder. Does this mean they got mad at me, and now they are just going to haphazardly throw together my laptop? Or will I just get moved to the front of the line? I'm worried now. But once I get this answer, I am going to 100% put this out of my mind until it gets here, at which point I will be able to say upon seeing the box, "Cool." Whenever that may be. So can someone fill me in about this? I need to stop worrying about it.

It doesn't mean anything and will not get you your laptop any faster . You should be going after concession coupons and free upgrades

According to the service representative that i talked to... an expedite order makes the time from when you purchased the computer to when they actually start to build it shorter... they put your computer order at the front of the line, in which it gets built before those who don't have an expedite order...

However, I agree with the above posts.. i just think they like to throw the idea of an expedite order around because I don't really think it exists. I purchased my computer mid July and its STILL in pre-production despite the fact that my service representative told me that she would expedite it... ugh

My order for a Vostro 1400 has been in build for 10 days despite being expedited. Also, my order was 'expedited' after it had already entered the build stage.

I just realized something... maybe the expedite order isn't completely a facade because originally my service representative told me that my computer will be shipped out Aug 8. Then when I complained she told me she would expedite it and then she told me that it will be shipped out Aug. 3... hmm... regardless my computer is still in freaking pre-production...grr

Don't know. I had to cancel/reorder to add remote on my 1420 on 7/19. They expedited and gave me overnight free and now I have a tracking number for fed x to deliver on 7/30. Funny thing when they asked me when I wanted it i said hopefully by the end of the month. Maybe I just got lucky.. don't know... but from my end it looks like the expedite is real and the next day fed-x is very real.

Expedite doesn't mean squat. I was told my order would be expedited on Monday... 5 days later it is still showing In Production - Build Stage.

in theory it is being pushed to the front of the line. But if everyone keeps talking to dell and everyone is getting pushed to the front, it will seem like it is making no difference.

    Welcom to club Dell...

First you're in the "Order Acknoledgement Club"

Then you move into the "Confirmation Club".

This is followed by the "Build Club".

Next is the infamouse "Expidite Club".

If you're lucky you then get to join the "Shipping Club".

    And finally the "Ownership Club".

All kidding aside I'm still in it for the long haul if I get it by my ESD.

Some people seem like they have their new computers personally built and speedily delivered by Michael Dell himself. The rest of us seem to matter as much to Dell as a fart in the wind. What are those folks doing right? Did they just happen to get the right CSR? Did they pay full price with no rebates or coupons? What gives?

That would be the million dollar question ay? This is my THIRD Dell purchase and all the other orders came with no problems, no delays.....this new order for my 1720 has been the biggest disappointment! I have never had more delivery problems and delays from Dell than I have had this time. Evidently, these new Inspirons and 1330's are more popular than past models or Dell is having a harder time with their supply chain.

Ordered my new 1520 on Jul 28th, with Est. Ship Date Aug 14. Asked for quicker service and was told they would "Expedite".

    Then I got this today:

"Currently, we have an industry wide shortage for "glass" used in LCD hence all parts to be made with the glass could be back ordered.
Hence it may or may not ship out on time.

And it is not that we do not have it; It is only a shortage and as in when we get the glass we ship it as soon as possible.

The delay is with the “glass”.
This means that it affects all manufacturers that use LCD screens

Although we anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and hence unable to ship the order earlier."

I'll be giving them a call tomorrow, and if I can't get it sooner, do you think we can get some free accessories??? Hahaha.
