Hello guys. Ma laptop is DELL inspiron 1440 running on windows 7 64-bit. I have this strange problem today. When i try to open any windows icon or folders on the desktop, it does not open and displays this under Explorer.exe window- " The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs Control panel" . But individual files on desktop is opening.
I tried even from start options, but in vain. Although i'm able to open from windows explorer option from start option. Also the OS icon which is displayed on the drive in which OS is installed has disappeared. And Network Icon for internet on the taskbar is missing. Pls guys help me out! :(

    Try a system restore first.

A virus/malware might have tore through your system files.

No, system restore which allows you to revert your system to an earlier date.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System restore.

Just choose a restore point before this happened. Preferable closer to yesterday if there is one.
