I'm a Pinoy (local from the Philippines). I recently processed my custom studio 15 from the Dell US site the other day and since Dell USA does not ship outside of the US I decided to have it delivered to my sister in California... from there I'll have it brought here in the Philippines when someone goes home.

My concern is: During the processing of my order I did not tick the option " I WILL EXPORT THIS OUTSIDE of the US".

Is there any difference if I did? I mean, will my order come with a permit to export or something if I did choose that option? Apparently I cannot reverse that. I'm not really familiar with US Customs or if they would allow new and boxed laptop to be exported out from the country.

Advice please... I don't want my laptop to run into troubles getting here :(

Taking an unopened laptop box out might get you into trouble, as that's exporting, and is subject to taxes and tariffs and whatever international laws rule over the relationship between the states.

Taking an opened laptop usually means it for personal use, and is not subject to those same taxes.

    I think.

I know they always give us trouble and make us note down whatever valuable items we're taking across whenever we leave the country.

Just have your sister take it out of the box, put it in a protective sleeve or case, and bring all the resource disks and documentation. Customs won't care about a laptop in a case, since they'll just assume it's hers, but they may get suspicious of an unopened one in the original box.

Just tell her to take it out of the box. And bring the box as well without the laptop in it. If anyone asks her why shes bringing the box too, she could say that she's giving it to her cousin as a gift and he wanted the box as well. :)

that excuse would work even if the laptop was in the box, so long as it was open.
