I personally dont own a dell, however, seeing as most of the threads dealing with static interference with relation to the 3.5mm jack are located here, I felt it appropriate to post this here.

As noted in my sig I own an Asus G1S, but I have also been plagued with the static interference ( very noticeable because I run audio through a 1200W system ). Whether or not the defect is the same I am unsure, and whether or not the fix located here will work I dont know either, however, I have found a possible fix ( at least, it fixed it for me ) for the noise that I have yet to find; put your system into "power saver" mode. That's it. It doesn't completely remove the static, but it reduces by a significant amount ( under high performance, i notice the static at 20% max volume, while under power saver I dont notice it until 50% max volume, which in turn makes it virtually non-existent because the music plays well over it ). Try it, and see if it works. If not, I apologize in advance for wasting your time.

No joke. A ferrite bead is probably all you can do if anything.
