What does it look like now? Is it mirroring your current desktop?
Try opening up Display Properties > Settings, and upping the resolution, and then checking the box that says "Extend my desktop onto this display". -
lol i know...that doesnt work
-
I need it where i have control on both screens...not where my desktop comes up on the external in the wrong res and when i open something it opens on lappy screen and cant be controlled....unless there is someway to change between which monitor is the active one...
-
Using Fn+F8 controls the active display

wut about when u have a regular bluetooth keyboard...wuts the the combo?
cause theres no Fn key on my external keyboard -
it still goes to the wrong resolution when i activate both and it only shows like part of my desktop...i cant get it to where both monitors are active...

Did you try setting up dual screens in nvidia control panel?
-
yup....when i st it to 1280x1024 (native res) black bands come up making it like widescreen lol...plus my object dock toolbar doesnt come up on the screen meaning its only a background....i needa put applications running on it lol
-
how are you connecting it? HDMI or s video
If its HDMI then I would say you are using hardware scaler instead of built in becaue laptop LCD's dont have there own scalers like most desktop counter parts.
I remebered when I had to setup my external display with my desktop. I had to fight with that poorly designed menu for hrs just so I could play WOW on my HD TV.
Keep messing with it your get you way though it eventually. -
lol...i just want to be able to run my desktop infull res on the other one with object dock at the bottom...does any1 know how o get object dock t work on the other screen?
and i'm using w/e the thing is where u hook in old monitors...its like blue and it screws in...its on the right side but its not HDMI.. -
To switch the entire desktop from the internal to the external monitor, you must use the laptop's keyboard. There should be an icon on one of the Function keys that shows two screens. You toggle it until the external monitor gets a signal. Typically, it toggles between internal, external and both.
Of course, that still leaves the problem that the resolutions, and perhaps the aspect ratios, of the internal and external screens are different. I'm not sure about Vista, but in XP, there is a Hardware Profile setting that allows you to manage power settings and resolutions etc, depending on whether a laptop is docked or not. That might help. You could also adjust your video card settings manually.
