So i just got my ruby red 1720 about a week ago and I love it but since i have not owned a laptop before I have a few questions about the f keys mainy what they do.
I was browsing the forum to see if i can make my screen brighter when not plugged in and got curious about the F keys with symbols on them so basically I want to know the function of each key.
    F1(has a moon on it)-
    F3(has a battery on it)
    F5(has scroll lock on it)
    F8(has crt/lcd)
    F11(system req on it)
and F12(has pause break on it)
And in order to use these keys do i need to hold down another button like the FN button because i tryed pressing the f3 key(battery one) and nothing happened

You need to hold down the FN key in conjunction with pressing the blue secondary keys.

    F1 (moon) - Hibernation
    F3 (battery) - Battery Meter
F5 - Scroll lock like on a normal full size keyboard
F8 (crt/lcd) - switches to external monitor, if you have one plugged into the external monitor port.
F11 (system rq) - I don't know what this one does.
F12 - Pause/Break key like on a normal full size keyboard
