i found this stuff in the vostro 1500 manualpages 177-178.

Okay so what is an FCM ? supposedly it could improve vista performance. Anyone here using it? anyone know performance boosts ? im talking about actual benchmarks of some sort. Anyone know if it can work IN conjunction to vista ready boost?

whats the Coin cell battery? Is it preinstalled on every system or do you have to buy it separate ? What is it its function ?

thanks guys for any info you might provide :).

"coin cell battery" is the cmos battery...it holds the bios information and settings when no power is supplied to the computer.

Google the intel turbo cache module, it gives mixed results, but most say its useless if you have 2 or more gbs of ram.

ahh gotcha thanks nizzy, can always count on you to be informative . + rep

you know what would be cool ? if they made a built in battery for notebooks that could keep the notebook alive for 30 seconds. This way you could swap 2 batteries without connecting to the AC or powering off the machine. Thats what i thought the coin cell bat was so i thought id buy another dell bat and that. Guess not. Oh well.

FCM does make some improvements...for my XPS M1330 that has 2GB ram...At least the time to open MS Word 2007 is faster...
