I didn't find this in search, so I'm posting a note for anyone who gets stuck--I just went through three hours of tech support with DELL to find the most random solution to a weird problem.. AND I got to be the first one to document the issue! Yay! Anyway.
A fresh install of the Audigy Advanced HD MB in XP Pro on my M1710 failed repeatedly giving me the error "setup verification tool has encountered a problem". There were also various other issues including failure to activate the card after manually bypassing certain steps with alternate drivers. I was able to get a basic crippled mixer with an "Upgrade to Audigy" button, but couldn't go any further to restore the OEM Audigy software.
SOLUTION:
Of all nutter things to solve this problem this was unexpected: you MUST plug the Composite Video/SPDIF output dongle into the SVideo port in the back of the laptop to complete the installation if your laptop came with one. Without the SPDIF out, the Creative setup program will not recognize the card and terminates the install process, or activation may fail in the end if you do things the hard way.
1:22:47 PM You: It's going through the installation, yes. Just got to the activation screen and succeeded so here's hoping..
1:23:22 PM You: I hope they patch this, I'd hate to lose the dongle and void my soundcard
1:23:50 PM NV XPS Dell Dude: I know what you mean, I will send feedback through the appropriate channels
So don't lose your dongle..
Who knows if this affects every system, but it drove me up the wall all night and half this morning. Hope it helps!

I looked everywhere and couldn't find an answer, so I put one up. Obviously it's not happening to everyone. Apparently another DELL tech had dealt with it because the dongle suggestion came from someone talking to my rep. But for whatever reason it wasn't documented. There are a lot of people having trouble reinstalling the AUdigy card, I found that much out on the DELL forums. Maybe this is why? Since nobody had posted this fix, I posted it.

I'm getting the EXACT same message everytime I try to reload this program after my reformat.
I didn't get any kind of dongle though....what does it look like? -

The dongle part numbers from my quotes are:

S-Video SPDIF Cable SCABLE [310-7859] 20
FYI to all on fresh Audigy Advanced HD MB installation
