Did they stop putting in the facial recognition software in with the notebooks? I know it was listed when I ordered mine. I have search all over the hard drive and haven't found any software to use this feature.

I have a studio 1747 core i7 quad, just got it a few days ago.

Any info on this would be great! :D

Yeah, my 1569 didn't come with it either. Does anyone know a way to download the Dell Facial Recognition Software on to a laptop that didn't come with it from factory?

If facial recognition is on your machine it will be called "FastAccess". You should see it both in the Windows menu and probably also on the login screen with it's own "tile". If you have it and want help activating it, let me know.

Some platforms come with it standard, on some it's a paid upgrade option, and it's not available at all on others.

If you do not have it on an existing system and want to add it, you can buy it from Dell as a separate item.

    1. You will not find it on dell drivers site, its commercial software and it is available on dell special site only for people who have paid for it.
    2. The soft itself is crap, extending start up time by 10-20 sec.
    3. Sometimes you have to move your head in several directions before it recognises you, it looks funny for other people who look at you and think you mental.
    4. You have to be sure your system is compatible, otherwise the camera will be always engaged and the camera light always on. You will not be able to use camera in other software, Skype etc.

Thanks for the feedback Jako, but I do want to make a few small corrections.

While this may have been true at one point, it no longer is. Users can now purchase it directly from Dell.com.

Startup time may be extended by just a bit as camera drivers are loaded. The total time is negligible, however, and for most users it is more than worthwhile for the addeded speed and convenience of not needing to type passwords for Windows or websites the majority of the time.

Slight movement may in fact be benefical to recognition, but it's certainly not required. The software uses a unique learning algorithm that allows it to quickly acclimate itself to various body positions and other environmental variables. If you're not recognized quickly, just log in. That's how the software learns and improves it's performance.

    Let's break this down.

LED (camera light). Some systems allow for control over the LED and some do not. Regardless, however, it's just a little light and the performance of the software is not impacted in any way at all. ANY system running Vista or Win7 with a camera is compatible.

Camera engaged: Whether or not the camera stays "engaged" depends on the security mode that you've selected. Some modes have real-time protection features (for example, "Continuous Security automatically locks the desktop when you move away) that demand access to the camera.

Other video software: FastAccess absolutely does allow for the use of other video software including Skype through the "virtual camera". If you're having difficulty getting this to work, please let me know and I'd be happy to help.

yeah...tried it for a day when I first received my rig....not a fan...too inconsistent...extended startup while it searched for the image. I since reformatted and left it off. Maybe they will improve it down the road.

Thanks for the input. I will do some more research on it or are there any other recommendations for this type of software?

    guys
you may not like it but from a security standpoint, it is pretty much the best consumer level facial recognition software on the market right now and cannot be hacked using the methods demonstrated at last year's defcon.
I currently enjoy mine. Yes, it does add a bit of time to startup and stuff, but after that, its pretty much invisible. I've never had any stability issues and its trained to the point where it recognizes me immediately.

And yes, you can use other software, I use my skype all the time, i dont know what the other poster is complaining about with that.

I have never hidden the fact that I work for Sensible Vision (just look at my username....). Given my in-depth knowledge of both the technical and business aspects of the software I honestly try my best to answer questions, provide support, perspective, and accurate information whether working in person, by phone, over email, or on forums. I truly believe that there is nothing gained by promoting false or innacurate opinions and technical details.

I hope that the fact that I am allowed - even encouraged! - to do this work when the gain from it is quite small is a testament to the commitment of Sensible Vision to provide the best possible software and user experience.

    Thanks.

    svrep,
I too was having problems with skype and my new dell 1747. It was conflicting with fast access. I have to disable fast access before using skype.
I was interested in your post about a virtual webcam.
It is annoying to have to quickly disable fast access before answering a skype call. Is there a way of using a setting that allows for fast access to be enabled and to be able to use the intergrated webcam with skype via a virtual webcam?

Skype is fully compatible with the virtual camera. Without additional details, I would first suggest looking at question #9 on page 21 of our FAQ.

If that doesn't do the trick for you, let me know and we can take further steps.
