I just got a Dell Studio 15 from the Dell outlet and while it's a great laptop I am wondering about the fan. It runs constantly and you can definitely hear it the whole time.

When I opened the media player it revved up a little but I wasn't even playing a video. Is this fan noise and constantly running fan normal for the Dell Studio 15?

I love the laptop but I think it is louder than usual and find it odd that the fan runs all the time. The bios installed is A05.

I have the model with an ATI video card if that makes any difference.

No, its not normal.. Mine is on about maximum 10% of the time and even then it's barely noticeable.

I've already contacted tech support and they are shipping me a box to send it to the depot. I had to do some convincing before they would do that--they tried to tell me it was normal that laptop fans run constantly.

I also want to contact them about the keyboard. I know my laptop is refurbished but many of the keys have shiny spots on them as if they have been used for a long time. There is also a scratch on the palm rest. Unit was not purchased as a scratch and dent-just a refurb unit.

Am I just being to picky? I wish they would replace those as well.

Other than these issue, I think the laptop is great. It looks fabulous and is very fast. It connects to my wireless instantly. I don't want to sound like a complainer to Dell but on the other hand some things need to be taken care of.

I was wondering if I should reinstall the A05 bios to see if that would change it.

I have also read that some people are going back to a previous bios version and that stops the fan from running all the time but I would worry that the previous bios versions might cause something else to malfunction

    hi
bought studio 17 new from dell same thing, fan switches on and off every 2 mins not even using any program then stays on constantly, really annoying and is audible. sent it back to dell, would not give me refund, got it back exactly the same, must have not tested it. i have now sent it back again and at present waiting to recieve it back, will let you know outcome.
talking to other people and using other dells at work it is not normal for fan to be switching on and off and being on constantly.
love the laptop, but wish i had bought something else and would not go direct to dell again to much hassle been phoning them all the time a not getting through wasted loads of time and have no laptop. buy from shop next time
