    I just received my Dell XPS M1330, T7500, 2.2GHZ, 160GB 7.2K RPM with 2GB RAM today.

When I first powered it up the CPU was pegged at 100% or close to it most of the time, making everything really slow. The fan was also constantly running and fairly loud.

I uninstalled a few things like the google tools, roxio, MS Works (I have Office) and Live! Cam Avatar. Hopefully that is OK.

I also turned off the power saving option of the Bluetooth Radio in the Device Manager. I found that idea in the forum and just tried it.

Sometimes when I reboot the CPU goes back to normal, other times it comes up pegged again.

When CPU was pegged my Windows Experience Index was 1.2.

When the laptop isn't in this strange CPU pegged mode it is 4.0.

Either way, CPU pegged or not, my fan is constantly running. I don't think I have the "CPU whine" people have talked about. But I was under the impression that the fan should not really be on when the machine is just not doing anything.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

So basically it's very warm all the time as well, or? I had the same problem as you, I got mine replaced. It's not normal for the CPU to be going and hot all the time like that.

check that you don't have a CD in the drive....this will cause the fan to run like crazy and slow down your comp...

been in chat with Dell support for an hour or so. Looks like I will have to get a new one.

Is the fan normally always on and loud enough to hear clearly? I don't think that is right.

We took out some startup programs and put a new NVIDIA driver for the display but it didn't help.

When I restart the CPU wouldn't always be 100%, but after I woke it up from sleep it always would be.

hold down FN and hit the power button. All sorts of cool diagnostics will pop up to check if the fan/cpu is having issues.

Are you starting with the laptop turned off?

I think the first thing I'd do when I get a new computer is delete everything and use the restore disk. Bloatware sucks. =/

Mine went to sleep as well. I turned it on holding fn and it is doing this long memory test. Is that what you were talking about?

Does a long memory/cpu test takes about 10 mins, can't abort it, then it gives you the option after that to run a bunch of regular test, fan, cpu, and such.

My long memory test was going for an hour or so and I just aborted it. So I guess I didn't get the option for fan/cpu, etc.

i'd try wiping everything from the hard drive first and then reinstalling a clean version of windows
