This laptop is quite loud from my perspective -- -thoughts from anyone else with it appreciated..

My question is about the fan. It seems there is a fan that runs inside but isn't the main fan. When the temp hits 58 or 59 another one kicks on that vents warm air out of the back vent... Is this the top level fan or is there another level above that one that is REALLY loud?

I love the speed of this lappy but the noise and heat are almost too much to bear...

Sometimes there is a fan running but its not venting out the back. Then something kicks on and it vents warm air out the back... That's the one that is loud.. I used the I8... program and turned them to high and there is definitely a higher speed than what I'm hearing... Maybe the one I hear kick on and vent is the video card fan.

As far as the CPU fan, I don't think it ever cuts off... The laptop is never "quiet"....

I was mistaken about two fans. The 9400/e1705 has another fan for the GPU. The 6400 only has one fan.

Could the noise be from the hard drive?

It could be from the hard drive. Maybe the new high speed drives are just 'noisier"... ???\

I've got it sitting on a Targus Chill Pad now and it just ran up to 60 on the I8 fan monitor... and the fan kicked on... YIKES!
