Fast order for m1530

Hi All,

I just wanted to let you know that the m1530 that I ordered this last Monday (May 12'th), has just shipped on Saturday out of Nevada and is specked to arrive on Tuesday in California.
Origional ESD was May 28'th. So there is hope for you guys that ordered on Monday as well.

Now we just need to see if DHL messes up this delivery as they did others.

Wow. That's fast. What were your specs? I also ordered may 12 with an ESD of 5/28, but automated order status still has mine in build, which it's been since Monday.

Hi all, new guy here. I ordered my m1530 on Monday 5/12 and I should receive it tomorrow. The original ship date was 5/28. I also ordered the upgraded sound card and that had a ship date of 6/11, but I received it Friday.

I think it's so fast because I ordered it through the Employee Purchase Program my company has with Dell. I'm surprised, but I'm not complaining.

 

Well, a few differences I guess.

You: T9300, Me: T8300
You: 320 GB 5400, Me: 250 GB 5400
You: WXGA+ LED, Me: WSXGA+ LCD

You: 9 Cell, Me: 6 Cell

So there's 5 differences that can still point to me waiting, waiting, waiting, while you enjoy your new notebook.

my build is nearly the same as fountainhead's (sub T9300)...i wonder what could be the hold up...esd is also 5/28 (ordered 5/12)...spoke with rep earlier in the week, said would "ship out by next tuesday or wednesday" *aka this coming tues. wedn.*...hopefully she didnt say that just to appease me.

 

Before ordering I looked to see if anything was on delay. Nope everything seemed clear. The next days following everything still seemed to be in the clear so I hoped that production would move along swiftly. It seems to be the case.

Interesting, I ordered on 5/9 and my ESD is 5/27. Pretty much the same setup, except for the HD (160Gb).

 

I ordered mine through the EPP sales on the 9th and my ESD is 5/28 as well.. I can't believe that your's already arrived.. I wish mine will be at least shipped soon..

 

I just want some positive status change...

 

it hasn't arrived just yet, but it has shipped out. I ordered it through the online chat, and then a sales rep called me to complete the order.
I am excited to get it, but I wasn't going nutzy expecting them to ship it early. I mean they build thousands of machines a day, and just the fact that they were going to get to start building mine was good enough for me. In fact I was expecting my ESD to drop back to mid June or so. In which case I would be on my Honeymoon so I wouldn't have cared that much anyways.

Bah. I need to call tomorrow. That will be three weeks from order date. If they suggust/say I can cancel my order before I mention it, I will flip out asking why my money isn't any good to them, and ask for a supervisor...

Mattocs do you know that youre having bad delay because of your 250GB HD @ 7200rpm?

 

I understand, my 1530 had to be *refreshed* (cancelled)~ because of a backorder on a part... and I had a further wait..and I wanted it sooner than the latter. But when it finally arrived, I was very happy. Hang in there

I'm wondering if they advised him of this???

 

sorry to butt in on your thread, but i ordered back on may 4th with a orig edd of may 15th that delayed to may 29th and no new word why mine is delayed. any ideas?

There should be no reason to be delayed, i would be pissed at them for delaying it 15 days.. try cancelling it and get a better deal like me, i see that you paid over $1500 for it, mine has more than you and its only $1283.48

Just thought I'd like to let you know that my new m1530 showed up safe and sound from DHL today.
Its a fine machine and I have not seen any problems yet. I'll reformat after running benchmarks and all.
Only interesting thing is that the display driver for the LED screen is just labeeld as Generic. It does not have the driver for it installed. Is this odd? Any idea where I can pick it up?

Can I ask how much you paid for the system? I know a few ppl on other forums that have been waiting forever for a simliar setup but they also got a great deal. I'm wondering if price paid is related to shipping time.

Hard drives are in. They told me this morning they are out of 6 cell batteries.

 

so assuming we got everything but the 6 cell, we should be in the testing and boxing phase without incident....hopefully

 

From what a Dell Rep told me on Dell Chat, it seems that all parts have to be in at the same time. They won't hold all parts and wait for the one.

I was waiting for a hard drive. It came in, but they gave my battery away. So now I have to wait for it.

They will discontinue this model before I ever get mine... :-/

 

if they really do "build" laptops that way it's inefficient.

 

any word on when they might receive new batteries (6-cell)?

On my way home from work this morning, I will call again. I want to know why I was lied to. I wonder what they will tell me is out of stock this time.

 

Yeah, now the batteries are gonna be a PITA..

I just configured a XPS M1530 on Dell and the 6 cell batteries don't have a "this item may delay your ship date" under it...

 

I know. He may have just made it up. I'll call in about three hours, and post what I find out when I get home.

I won't mention what I was told yesterday, and see if they tell me something new today.

 

This morning the rep told me batteries and a hard drive are out of stock, but the hard drive might be in? She didn't know. Still the same ESD (5/28) and she said there was a note to expidite my order. So, I don't know if that means they do that, or if i'm still being lied to, or if its just something they say to calm people.

 

Does Dell normally alter the ESD prior to the arrival of the original date? Seems like I've seen a number of posts from people who claim that they'll run all the way up to a particular ESD and only then does it actually change to a new one.

I'm just wondering if this battery shortage means that the 5/28 date (my date too) is already essentially unreachable, but that we'll have to wait until 5/28 for them to actually acknowledge that. I'm going to be hacked off if they wait another 8 days to tell me that it's really going to be 6/15.

They ESD is 5/28 and they will ship it out that day, but most of the times if they have everything then they will ship it out early, in which case of the batteries, we dont get ours early anymore, we just have to wait till the 28th, and maybe a couple of days earlier, they won't alter the ESD..

 

I guess what I'm saying is that they generally don't seem to alter the ESD prior to the arrival of the original ESD...even if it's a certaintly that they can't meet the that date. They might still be waiting for batteries on 5/27 and our systems not even started the build yet, but we'll still see ESD 5/28 until that date comes and goes. Then it'll suddenly say 6/15 or whatever.

That makes the date sort of meaningless if it's not updated regularly to reflect shortages. It's sort of like the wife ringing me up on my cell at 4:55 PM and verifying that I'll be home at 5 PM, and I say sure, I'll be there...except I'm really 40 miles away in a bar with no chance to make it home in time. But hey, I'm sticking to that 5 PM thing until it's 5:01.

Of course the whole Order Status thing is pretty weak anyway, since mine's been in BUILD for 9 days, and fifty bucks and a plate of cheese says it's nothing more than an order queued up in a database somewhere right now.

 

Yeah.. Let's hope our laptops will be shipped this week.. Keeping my fingers crossed..

They have batteries...people who ordered after me are getting them, but since they told me from the get-go that my ship date was the 28th, they will give the current supply of batteries out and wait to ship mine. Its weird how they do stuff...

Yeah..its unfair...but if they already told you that your system was going to take forever, and you are already pissed, they figure they might as well make others happy. I dunno. Whatever. I decided I don't care anymore. I'll get it when I get it. The wait is half the fun. :-/

Sure, after the 25% discount and a extra 50 bucks off I paid tax and all (free shipping) 1840 and change.
I ordered the 9 cell battery since I need it for my long plane trips.

Seems kind of unlikely, eh? I'll be shocked (yet pleasantly surprised) if they hit the 5/28 ESD. I don't know how many more times I can take hearing that lady on the recording saying, "Alright, I have some important information for you to write down. Your order is In Production, and is currently in the Build stage..."

And in a show of defiance I never write the info down, even though she explicity asks me to. I hate her.

My prediction is that we'll get the dreaded delay notice on 5/28, and that I'll be using a new ASUS M50sv by June 3.

 

Well, according to Dell, ( I ordered the 12th as well ), there is no delay, and will be shipped on or before the 28th. I mentioned the battery, she claimed that there is no holdup on that part.
I ordered the 2.4mhz, 3gig of ram, standard HD, LED screen.
Hopefully I see the damn thing soon.
And fountainhead, for whatever reason, that avatar of yours creeps me out.

Hope you're right about the battery and delay situation. Not sure I trust Dell reps to give (or have access to) the most complete information, but we can at least hope this is correct.

 

I, too, am dreading that email saying that my order has been delayed. However, according to the Dell website, our xps systems will generally take 10 days to build (assuming your configurations do not include those that explicitly say that they may delay your shipment date). With that being said, I'm under the impression that they mean 10 business days (a.k.a 2 weeks), meaning that those who ordered 5/12 (including myself) should expect a status change NO LATER than 5/26. If the build time is met, then it would take about 2 days for your system to arrive from Malaysia (if that was where it was assembled) to the warehouse where it is to be shipped to your door. In hindsight I really idealized getting the system well before the estimated shipping/delivery date.

I'd rather have them build my system from scratch and have it shipped by estimated date instead of having some system they put together quickly just to satisfy me and give me the impression that they, Dell, have put great emphasis on my order. I would feel skeptical if my system had been shipped to my door before everyone else's despite the fact that I ordered after them.

 

Personally I have never had a single item shipped DHL show up on time with no issues. They are easily the worst of the major carriers(in mine and many other opinions).

They are the main reason I wont buy anything from amazon anymore and I tend to avoid merchants that use them though apparently this time I got duped lol.

Mine wasnt THAT far off from your spec so hopefully no delay's here as well (5/28 ESD).
