I'm on the verge of ordering a Latitude D630. By default it comes with a 2.0 ghz Core 2 Duo.

I've got the option of upgrading to 2.2ghz.

    So....

    a) How much impact will it make on battery life? (benchmarks available?)

    b) How much difference will it make to real-world usage? (It'll be used for large PowerPoint reports, large Visio diagrams plus the normal web, email etc)

    c) Will the case become noticably warmer as a result?

2.0 GHz is more then enough for your tasks. It is not worth the upgrade.

    a) There will be no noticable impact.
    b) The difference will not be noticable. 200 MHz difference is not noticable in Powerpoint reports.
    c) The heat will also not be noticable. Maybe 1 degree Celsius higher but nothing serious.

The heat, no.. 2.0 is good for most task, i have that processor.. the core 2 duo 2.0ghtz. However I will be upgrading to the 2.33 soon, and keep in mind this is TWO CORES, so essentioanlly it's like an addtional 666 mhz, and that's something u can go from.

However from 2.0 to 2.2 there will be less difference, but nevertheless the same effect. It's like an addtional 400 mhz, so.. you consider if you want to pay that extra, personally I wouldn't unless I made a larger jump, but that's only because I have a 2.0 already. But if I was in your shoe, if hte price isn't too much difference and I can afford it comfortably, i'll just get the 2.2 :)

Whatever heat difference will be offset with the fan cooling it down so no, as far as battery life, I wouldn't worry on it :)

As others have said, the difference between these processors in minimal. You probably wouldn't even notice the difference unless you where running benchmarks. That said, if you want as much speed/performance as possible and you can only choose between these two processors go with the 2.2GHz ... just don't expect much more than the 2.0
