If an AC adapter was to malfuncion, is it possible for it to damage the laptop? I'm asking because my ac adapter suddenly stopped working the other day, but was still putting out power (according to my dad who checked it with a voltimeter.)

must be power adapter day cause today mine stated to short out. If I wiggle it some it shorts. Pretty much becuase of the sweet striaght design and not 90 degrees coming out the back on my vostro. It gets super hot, even the whole cord, it has a nice high picth noise - it almost matches the notebook.

Maybe it wanted to talk to the laptop :p

In all seriousness though, your laptop has got to be still under warranty - the Vostro 1500 - so you can get a replacement part. I really would try to discontinue its use because of risk of electrical fire especially if the actual chord is hot.
