I bought my Dell Inspiron 6400 less than two months ago, and recently it stopped working. It just turned off while I was using it and wouldn't come back on, no lights or anything. Dell determined that it was a faulty motherboard and then took ONE WEEK (during a time in which I really needed my computer) to finally come and replace the motherboard.

I'm very dissatisfied and I'm afraid that something like this could happen again. Why did it happen in the first place? Has this happened to anyone else?

even in normal usage, mobo and any laptop (pc) parts can break down. it does not happen too often, but it does happen. some people has (better) luck than other.

    1 week?
    where are you located?

When my I6000 mobo broke it only took 2 days.
1 day for the tech to get the part and 1 day for them to install.

Well, part of the problem was that I bought the computer in the US, but I'm in Denmark now. That's not an excuse though. I told them I needed it urgently.

I don't think it's reasonable. I bought that computer less than two months ago!

So, did they fix your laptop or not?
Did you buy next day on site warranty repair with your laptop?
Did you reregister your laptop in Denmark when you got it there?
You've never had an electronic product break within the warranty period?
Can you prove the motherboard died with no negligence on your end?

Oh, my brother and I had to make many, many phone calls to Dell until they finally came and fixed it. They wanted me to ship the computer for replacement, and the people in customer service also contradicted themselves a bunch of times.

I agree, zx10guy. I've also found that the email support works pretty well. Going through the Dell support website, I used the email option in the Technical Support section and received a response in less than 2 hours. In less than 6 hours I had a new battery on the way, which arrived the next day.

Anything is better than talking to the Dell staff on the phone.
