    http://wherethehellismatt.com/pictures/IMG_3244a.JPG

1b. maybe one of you can tell me what dell inspiron that would be most likely.

    2. Whats major difference with E1705 and E1505?? Other than hardware..
( I mean like Chassis, keyboard, power ??)

    3. I just saw the E1705 can get the 7900 GS Correct? Which is a really good video card, but is the battery / weight worth it? :p

    2. The 1705's much bigger than the 1505. Even though its only 2", it's a pretty big difference. The 1705 is more like a portable desktop; the 1505 is more of a mobile system. I believe they share the same keyboard, not sure...and for power, the 1505 definitely uses less power.

    3. The extra weight from the 9-cell or any other option is hardly noticeble (its a few ounces onto an already 7 pound brick). Even for word processing, your battery life will only be around 3.5 hrs with the 9-cell. If you are playing a game, it can drop to 2 or less (depending on your graphics card). The main issue with getting a good graphics card is overheating. As it stands, you probably won't want to use either the 1505 or 1705 on your lap as it gets quite uncomfortable once it warms up.

Here are some key differences and similiarities between the Inspiron e1505 and e1705.

    E1505
-Smaller and Lighter = easier to carry around
    -Weaker X1400 gpu
    -Reasonably strong battery life

    E1705
-Desktop replacement = Meant to stay on a desk
    -Huge screen
    -Powerful graphics available
    -Less battery life

    Similarities:
-Same silver with white trim styling
-Same decent keyboard with great layout (It's subjective, but I like the layout of Dell keyboards)
    -Media direct
    -Media buttons in front

also, the e1705 has a metal case as opposed to the plastic on the e1505 if i'm not mistaken. so the e1705 will have a much more rigid chassis, both behind the screen and the main body. this is not to say that the e1505 has a weak flexy feel, but compared to the e1705, it's not as rigid.

The e1705 will also have 2 fans as opposed to 1 on the e1505.

the picture appears to be a "faux wood" quicksnap cover on an older dell, possibly a latitude? these are still available for both the e1705 and e1505, though they may be on the dell site as being for the 9300 and 6000 respectively.

Yeah, KidA is right - the E1075 employs an outer casing made of magneisum alloy, which is more rigid than the E1505's ABS plastic. Another smaller, more minor feature the E1705 has is a built-in subwoofer plus the two regular speakers in front.

If its worth it: It really depends on what you're going to be doing with the notebook. If its just basic computing (e-mail, word processing, music, light gaming etc.) then the E1505 should be fine for your needs. If you're going to be playing the most recent games at medium-high settings, I suggest the E1705 for better performance.

They use the same keyboard, and if configured the same, you have about 95% of the battery life on the 17".

I get 4.5 hours surfing and word processing on my 9-Cell. And I get 2.5 hours playing FEAR Combat with ATi powerplay turned off.

And - I'm not sure about the heat produced by the 7900GS, but the X1400 is definitely NOT HOT. Overclocked, it hits a max of 60C, and I use it comfortably every day on bare legs. So don't worry about the heat on this thing, it doesn't get near as hot as other comparable notebooks.

that "sticker" is called the burlwood quicksnap cover. As far as the laptop, it looks like either an i8600, 9100/xps, or 6000. For the 1705/XPSgen2, m170, m1710, they have a personalization shield which is similar to the quicksnap covers but allow you to install your own graphics in the cover. The 1210 an 1505 I think are coming out with vinyl stickies to put on your lid...
