My laptop shipped out today...few questions

    1. I was promised an upgrade to next business day shipping. However, per the tracking number, my package is being delivered via ground shipping.

    2. My notebook is being shipped out of Sparks, NV. I thought it was supposed to be shipped out of Nashville, TN?

    3. I thought the 747 from Malaysia only sends laptops to Nashville. If such is the case, then how did my laptop get to Sparks, NV? Is that Dell's way of saving costs during a next business day shipping upgrade...by transporting the laptop from Nashville to a closer location to your home, then just using ground shipping?

    4. Is it normal for the DHL tracking info to not display the address that the unit is being shipped to? Because the tracking page just says the name of the university I attend, followed by the city, state and zip.

    Thanks.

I have been wondering the same thing about the address. Mine lists my name, then my town, but no street address. But mine is coming from TN, and I did not get the shipping upgrade... But this is also shipping a week before they said it would. My previous experience is that DHL is really fast with their GROUND shipping, and I do believe that they do ship overnight, (Like drive trucks) so the lappies might be making their way to our places of residence Friday or Monday!!

I got a D830 and it came through Ground but I think it got put on a Airplane to a city in my state from Nashville, TN.

I think its normal for DHL tracking not to say the addresses.

DHL is terrible. Simply terrible. My bag shipped out on the 10th, and it's almost the 13th and I've got no update other then "Package Picked Up" on the 10th.

Hey guys, it IS normal for them to have the university you are attending instead of your name. I contacted DHL about this, and they said that's what they are supposed to do. I received my laptop today, so no worries :D.

It appears as if Dell is using DHL as their primary carrier, and not every system is going to TN anymore...

Hmm Dell uses UPS when it ships to me
or it did for the longest time.

Did they switch carriers or stop using UPS since Sept 2006?

Yes, Dell has always used UPS...but every system, accessory, EVERYTHING in the last month at least has been 100% DHL and some people are reporting their packages shipping from NV, and before it was only TN.

Hey that same issue happened with me and I got the ground shipping instead of next business day which they promised. I sent an email, but I was told by customer service that they put the shipping in too late. Did you make any progress?

Mine just shipped, and the tracking number is still temporarily unavailable. How long till you received your tracking number?

It wouldn't have mattered anyway because I only live about 100 miles from the Sparks, NV, warehouse that it's getting shipped out of, so I'd receive it the next business day regardless of the shipping service level.

DHL is very bad and the lady that delivers DHL packages in my neighborhood in SF is very lazy and lied to her supervisor on 2 separate occasions when I saw her smoking and napping when she said she had made the stop and delivered the package. I had also filed a complaint with Dell but I guess they must be getting a sweetheart deal.

All notebook shipments are routed through Nashville, TN first and then they are transported in bulk to a regional shipping hub before being released to respective shipping companies.

I thought the ground shipping was 3 to 5 days? Mine shows 5 to 7, and does anyone know whether DHL usually ships faster?

My dell was supposed to ship 8/1, but shipped 7/12

Its supposed to arrive 7/17 to 7/19

But im hoping it arrives earlier, i cant wait!

I live in Venice Florida and my experience with DHL has been great. I received my laptop in 2 days after it was shipped from TN. I even got a phone call from the driver when I wasn't home to accept the package. He even made arrangements for me to meet him so he could give me my laptop.

I have no problems with DHL. :)

They used to use airborne express for their express packages who is now DHL. Also you guys know NV is closer to Malaysia then TN is right? It comes in over the west coast.

Mine shipped out of Sparks, NV, yesterday and it is out for delivery this morning. My remote control shipped out of "ATX" yesterday via Next Day (also with DHL) and is also out for delivery.

I think Dell carefully plans which shipping service level to use with orders depending on your exact location in order to save $$...they knew that a ground shipping option would arrive the next business day for my laptop since Sparks, NV, is within 100 miles of Sacramento.

Did you get a free upgrade to next business day from Dell? And if so at what production phase did you get it in?
