I just oredered my m1210 for college and I am pretty excited about it. I only got 1GB of memory and as I have been reading through tons of forums, it looks like I messed up. I cant afford another gig of memory prob for another month. (considering all my money went into this laptop) And I plan on getting the memory off ebay when the time comes. But the question I have is will the laptop still run IE fine, and simple tasks like word processing. I also got the Bluetooth card but im not exactly sure what its for.(external mouses and key boards? or for an actual int. connection?) But overall I am glad I didn go for the macbook and got the dell, I have reads tons of positive reviews for it and I believe I made the right choice.

lol. 1 gig should be enough for word processing and ie. in fact if thats all your going to do even 512 would be fine. the bluetooth is for bluetooth mouses, sending mp3's to your phone(if it has bluetooth) etc etc. 2 gigs of ram will be cheaper if you get it while on sale somewhere or something.

Nah you're fine with 1GB for as long as you are not planning to do any intensive tasks on it. Did it come with Vista?

Bluetooth is just another form of technology to wirelessly communicate/transfer with other devices. I.e. you can have a bluetooth headset which will allow you to have "wireless" headphones.

1 gig is fine... If you are planning on playing games you might want to consider getting more but you did a really good thing.... It is cheaper to buy the ram after market then from Dell. Check out some sites like zipzoomfly or newegg... both sites are cheap and reliable.

If you have questions about bluetooth, check wikipedia, they have a good description of it.

Thanks guys for the quick replys. And I will definitely be getting some more memory I just wanted to make sure I could do simple tasks until i upgraded. But I have heard alot of people say that the 3D graphics from Vista freeze with 1gig of memory and thats the only reason I was worried but I hope you guys are right and appreciate the replies.

Another question I had is my 1210 is coming with 2x512 memory. That means that both under the laptop, and under the keyboard are taken.. right? So to upgrade to 2GB of memory I would have to buy 2GB of memory, correct?

    That is correct.

By the way, I wouldn't say you "messed up." :) If you had ordered the memory with the laptop, it would have cost you $200. At newegg, you should be able to get 2GBs of good Corsair or G.Skill RAM for around $80.

Something worth trying before the new memory arrives: If you have a USB memory stick, poke it in and see whether Vista's " ReadyBoost" provides improved performance. Probably won't make much difference, but worth a try.

Well that really sucks about the 2gig thing. I really didnt want to have to spend $80 but I guess thats hella better than 200 from dell. When do you think the prices of memory will start going back up in price? You think I at least have 2-3 weeks? And another thing I have an external 120GB harddrive, ow much do you think that would help on the Vistas "ReadyBoost"?

A hard drive will hardly help at all. The performance boost is made possible through the faster access times of flash media.
