hi, want to buy really soon a laptop and my choice when up to dell inspiron 1520 (sager np2090 and acer 9410 17" were interesting but sager isnt offered to canada at reasonable price (shipping, waranty, etc..) and acer seem kinda fragile and cheap, for it low price...
    so heres my specs :

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (4Mo cache/2,0GHz/800MHz bus frontal)
    2 Go ddr2 ram
    hd SATA de 120Go à 7200 t/min
    8600 gt 256 mb
    sound blaster audiology

15.4" but i don't know what screen resolution should i take ... im used to be 1024*768 on my 19" desktop... 1280*800 could be fine... but 1440*900 kinda interesting too. Also, i dont want glare on screen because i like to watch movie, shows and do works on words, so dont want to have eyes burned. i want to be able to see the screen at any angle, no reflection, like my screen desktop mutlisync 97f. So i think matte is preferable... but i dont know if dell offer them.. i dont see this particularity on their site.

also, does the sound blaster support 5.1 speaker. just bought logitech x-540 speaker, pretty nice, with matrix option, that make 5.1 surround with 2.1 source.

cd/dvd writer good enough for many burning?

usefull to get the 9 cell battery if we can connect the laptop to the wall most of the time?

Can we have a big enter button under backspace button?

wireless intel 3945 good enough for router linksys (the one with speedbooster) with adsl 5mbps connexion?

can we uninstall vista and install it some time after? (so do they give cd?)

thank, hope to get answers soon ;P (pls dont delete this post)

The only 15.4" Dell model that offers the Matte Screen is the Vostro 1500.
It's exactly the same as the 1520 just the colors are different.

Dell does have a student discount for students. Give Dell a call and get your student discount for your Inspiron 1520. Student discounts doesnt work on any of the Vostros or Small Business computers.

The student discount is normally a 12% discount on your total order.

Yes anyone can order a Vostro-It is easier to buy a Vostro online than on the phone though. Online no one will ask if you own a business etc. On the phone a Dell Rep might ask but either way you can just make one up. That's how many of people orders their Vostro hehe

The T7300 is no longer available at Dell on the 1520. It's either the T7250 or the T7500 now and unfortunatley the T7250 only has a 2mb cache.

I don't think there's a need, just take a peek into the other Dell forum, or www.direct2dell.com

Big V, what are you talking about "arguments" I was just simply informing him that one of the main parts of the computer he was looking at building is no longer available.

I've just ordered the inspiron on the phone, here's the specs :
    1520, T7300(2,0GHZ) DOUBLE COEUR 2
    2Go,DDR2,667MHZ,2 DIMM
    85 WHR,9-pile,LION,PRIM BATT
    INT SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY, INS
    8X DVD+/-RW DL
    color midnight blue
    WXGA+ TL LCD 15,4, INSP 1520
    256MO NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600M GT
    120GO DISQUE DUR, 7200 TR/MIN, I1520
    INTEL 3945 802,11A/G ROW
    INT 355 BLUETOOTH
    ------
student discount is really 12% , BUT you need to take full care waranty. If not, discount go to 6%.
For me, i think its better to get the 12%

you guys where talking that there were no more T7300 core 2 duo 2ghz 4mb cache. On their site right now, its here.. but i know that some days or week ago, T7300 wasnt there, only t7250. thats why i didnt buy at this time bocause it got only 2mb cache.

that's it, finally made the paiement. Turn out to be about 1750$ CAN with 3 year fullcare waranty (elligible to 12% discount this way). Does many of you returned your laptop at the end of the waranty to get a new one by saying it got "broken up suddenly" ? ;P
