Doh! I had a brain cramp when I ordered my 9100 (which arrives tomorrow) and forgot to order the Bluetooth module.

Does anyone know if it is possible to order (and install) the module after purchase without returning the machine to Dell?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

I do believe you can order the bluetooth module from spare parts and pop it in yourself. However you will probably have to pull out your current wireless networking solution (be it the Intel card or the TrueMobile) and replace it with the bluetooth module. Correct me if I'm wrong but the bluetooth module also integrates 802.11b/g functions as well.

I'm not sure what the details are -- my expertise is in bigger iron Unix systems, not laptops [:0]

    kltye:

I ordered from spare parts today, and the Bluetooth Module is reported to be discrete from the Wireless B/G.

I hope it will be here by Friday. If it is, I'll report back with relevant information.

    Regards,

I've no idea about Unix systems. :D

At first I thought the bluetooth module uses a mini PCI slot and it is being used by your wireless module. But later I read it plugs into a special slot, and runs off an internal USB connection. On my 8600, the screw labelled "B" has probably something to do with it...

Hope all goes well for you!

I ordered my 9100 with it. Supposedly you can call spare parts and order it directly, but I doubt it's cheap!

    Cheers,

you don't need to remove the wireless card to put it the bluetooth... and it is really easy to install. (it goes on the battery bay)

    Lance,

Thanks. Now I probably don't have to call Tech support for install assistance. I will have to wait for next weekend to install as I leave on Monday for a business trip and the (insert expletive here) card hasn't shipped yet.

    CHeers,
