With regards to the i710m, do you guys think that the 2.0GHz processor will create more heat and noise (heat causing fan to run = more noise) than the 1.8GHz processor would? Which would you recommend? I know the performance will be marginal if anything, that is why I want to know if it would be in my better interest to try to get the less powerful processor.

Will that extra heat and noise, if any, be more noticable in the 2.0GHz one appose to the 1.8GHz one?

    Thanks again.

Unless you start running benchmark software such as 3DMark, etc., you won't ever notice the performance or heat difference. Odds are they use the same fan so the noise difference is zero.

Oh alright. Thanks a lot, good to know. I was just concerned that that extra little heat would cause the fan to run more thus resulting in more noise because the fan would be on more often.

Get the faster hard drive or more memory first.

That what I am trying, but the machine comes equipped with the 2.0GHz (cannot be adjusted) at this time.

Hmm. I paid $100 to upgrade to 2GHz. You guys say there's no noticeable difference from 1.8GHz? (This is for a 700m I ordered last week, shipped last night.)

I left the memory alone, plan to upgrade from Crucial. (Momo, I think it was you had a post somewhere about the upgrade from Dell being cheaper, but I think for me in the US, Crucial will be cheaper.)

As far as the HD, Dell only gave me 5400rpm options (I got the 100GB). zazonz, were you speaking in general (not 700m) about faster HDs? I don't know that I'd go buy my own 7200rpm and put it in, I hear that could lead to overheating (with the 700m's being so small).

I just realized that I wouldn't have gotten the $750 off without adding the 2GHz processor, so I feel better about it. Still, I'm curious if it will make any difference.

Ya and can someone give me the lowdown on this Yonah technology and whether or not we should be waiting for its release before purchasing our next laptop?
