Well I am an engineering student starting this summer. Hey thats what it took to get into FSU, so Im gonna start in July. I know someone who can get me a deal on a dell. Heres what I will get most likely:

    Stats:

    Dell Latitude D620
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0ghz
    14.1" WXGA+ LCD
    2gb RAM [2x 1gb DDR2-667]
    256MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 110M TurboCache
    80GB Hard Drive, 9.5MM, 7200RPM
Genuine Windows® XP Professional, SP2, with media [buying vista at student cost]
    8X DVD+/-RW w/Roxio Digital Media™ and Cyberlink Power DVD
    Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Dual-Band Mini Card
6 Cell Primary / 9 Cell Secondary batteries
Latitude Gold Technical Support / Warrantee

    Final cost: $1415.26

Now Ive talked with some college professors along with students and have heard good things about this lol vcards rendering abilities. For what I will be using I think it will be fine.

So final words anyone ? :)

Should meet all your needs. As an engineering student myself, I found myself only doing some coding and using MATLAB. Needless to say, it depends on what engineering you intend on majoring, but the laptop should meet all your needs.

Well then you're absolutely set...those specs with that price you CANNOT beat. I'm a EE myself (but a self proclaimed Computer E) and I know that amount of power should take care of your class needs for a long time.

I'd take some of that extra money and invest in a modular bay battery...then your battery could take you through a day or two of classes on a single charge!

Wow, that's a really awesome deal.

How did you managed to get it so low?

Don't Forget To Buy A Ti-89 Platinum Graphing Calculator, It'll Be More Useful Than Any Pc During Your Engineering Studies. Also, Start Looking For Cool Engineering And Math Programs Such As Matlab 7.1, Mathematica, Maple, If Electrical Or Computer Engineering I Recommend Maxwell And Electronics Workbench. Of Course Microsoft Programs Are Useful And Your University Might Have A Campus Agreement With Microsoft For Programs Such As Office And Visual Studio. But Above All Buy That Ti-89 Platinum Asap!!!
