(Some background info you may need to know to better help me out) I plan on doing not much more than your basics, no gaming or any graphically intensive tasks. Internet, word processing, photo editing (no Photoshop) and watching/listening to movies/music mostly.

    1. How will the C2D T5670 (1.8 GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) do in those tasks? And how long can I expect it to last me without falling too far behind in technology?

    2. I'm going to buy a 2GB stick of memory from NewEgg so it's cheaper if I ever decide to go 64 bit in the future. On Dell's site it says I need DDR2 SDRAM at 667 MHz. And at NewEgg I have the options of DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) and DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Which should I go for?

    3. How will the Intel X3100 preform in the aforementioned tasks? I've heard that's it's fine for basic stuff, but I've also heard it's a bit weak for even the most basic tasks. I'm trying to keep costs down, is the X3100 really that bad?

    4. How is the Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Wi-Fi Internal Card? I honestly don't see myself using the notebook away from home much, but if I ever needed to would that suffice? Again, trying to keep the cost down.

Thanks, will be happy to give rep for good answers.

1)The 5760 would last well enough for a few more years if you don't need it for gaming or other high end usage.Just because there is a newer chip doesn't mean your is bad.For Ex:My P4 laptop bought 5 years ago still does well in office and those stuff.
2)I think you can go for either one.As the freq is same. Also don't forget the pin number.
3)X3100 is bad for gaming. But enough for your needs.
4)Most of wireless cards can be updated just in case. But I think from your description you won't need one.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks RAMBO, what Pin# should I be looking for though? All the ones at NewEgg are at 200 pin, are there others?

the 1.8 processor will do you fine - both me and my bro have the 1.4 in our vostro 1400 and 1500 interent photoshop and DVDs all play perfectly fine, I have 2.6 celeron on my desktop and the 1.4c2d is easily twice as fast.
