Hi, all. For all of you e1705 owners out there, I am curious to know how you feel about your e1705 lappy no matter the (final) configuration. Are you satisfied with it, loving it, hating it perhaps? Let us know your opinion as well as reason for your desposition and where you plan to go with your e1705 (be it shipping it back or throwing it into the lake for a cool off). As well, for how long have you had it? Tell us all.
Me first: I love my machine. It's DTR workhorse that runs a hot at times but given the right software cooling is right at my fingertips. It is powerful enough for the latest games, and for slightly older ones that I can easily play on max settings. Games like UT, Painkiller, Freespace 2, and Heroes of Might and Magic franchise titles run smoothly w/ 7800Go without so much as a lock up. Personally, despite the given negative initial impression as a result of users downplaying this machine for reason of overheating, it is a dream to use and it will continue to be my toy and my work tool. Thank you Dell for a killer price tag...this has been a worthy buy.![]()

I bought one for my desk at home and for a loaded machine at $1300, I can't argue. It's been completely reliable, my only complaint is the screen is a little dim. I guess I've been spoiled by Fujitsu, I just didn't need something that expensive for this purpose.

The E1705 is a nice solution to the higher end models (XPS)
It seems like a nice computer, and if i was in the need for another DTR, i would think about the E1705 since it has such nice specs at a great price.
Although a friend of mine got one, and had bad issues with it, and Dell didnt help much at all. He ended up sending it in. I think thwe reason he sent it because he had a faulty vid card, and the screen had lines across it. -
Same here for the price it is great -
For the money, the configuration can't be beat. I love mine!

I love mine.
Things that could be better:
1. Less or no junkware, I'd have paid for that as an option when I ordered it.
2. Less light leakage
3. 2 USB ports on the right side. I like having a couple of ports on the back for when it is acting as a desktop replacement, but on the side is much more convienient when it's away from home. -
Love it so much. The heating issues go away with i9kfangui, and the gaming performance blows my old computer away. I have, ATM, 14 games installed that I'm enjoying all over again thanks to this powerhouse. Although if I have any complaints, it'd be with the slight light leakage, and the DVD drive that can be a little loud at times.

Had mine since January, when they were first released. I still love it, although it's not the fastest any more (but that's to be expected with any computer). The Core Duo is the best CPU in my opinion.
There were a few things that got me, which I've overcome:
- Light leakage seems to have lessened over time, but I usually use a 2405fpw, anyways
- The 7800 is slow and hot by comparison to the new 7900's, but it's a killer card and can be OC'd nicely with proper ventilation
- The somewhat bland look was resolved with a LCD cover
- Expresscard is just stupid when there's nothing to support it... Dell should've waited for the next model to introduce it, or include PCMCIA in addition (not that I use either one).
- A 17" gaming notebook needs 5.1 outputs built-in. Period. I now use a SB live 24-bit
- The Sony DVDRW is slow and loud, and I hope to replace it shortly with a slot-loading one
All-in-all, it's a perfect DTR and I plan on keeping it for years to come -
My minor comment is that the case design and construction seem cheap, under-developed. Right below the keyboard, where I rest my palms, the plastic sometimes creeks with a little pressure. And when tapped the echo within helps to percieve that the plastic itself is of low quality. I have seen IBM and HP lappies and am directly comparing them with my Dell one. Tell me if I am mistaken.

i thought Dell had the Road Ready design.......making it durable and sturdy.

My E1705 feels fine. I'm pretty happy with it. Obviously a few things could be better, but for the price I'll give it a 5/5. The performance is good and I actually like the way it looks. I've had a few software problems that I have caused and that is annoying lol. Mine feels pretty **** durable.

I got mine in April... pretty much love it for the 1st time
BUT:
1- blue screen problem happened while doing reinstallation windows.
2- didn't get the NVIDIA card
3- Light leakage
4- call Dell for help but won't work about the blue screen issue... those blue screen thingy happened 5 times already while i'm doing simple jobs like web surfing and music
Final thoughts.. i don't wanna spend extra bucks to ship back to dell for warranty, and they didn't want me to send it back either, they just use those stupid phone call help and it won't fix or resolve any problem.
Probably bring my laptop to VietNam to resell it to some1 i can get better price there. (in -
WOooo...Well let me tell you guys my story and you may be like crap. I ordered my notebook the e1705.....It arrived about a week ago. Open it up and turn the bad boy on...The screen is broken...I thought this was a bad a joke. On the point of throwing the notebook of the roof. I decided to call dell and the sent me out a new system with info on returning the defective one. I recieved my new system with nothing extra added (dell are cheapos) I recieved the new system that works, and Ive been pretty happy, only things that can be a pain are :
1-Battery life (the nine cell is around 2 1/2 hours while the six is an 1 1/2 hours)
2- The screen can't be on an angle or else someparts of the screen will be darker then others (so make sure your screen is not leaning
3- This is one ugly mutha #%@&#@ (heard people meantion a cover any more info would be cool thanks, because who wants to see Dell Insperion in giant letters, also grey and silver arent such cool colors)
4- Weight if you are a weakling or used to small light notebooks
5- Also may lag a bit in newer games using 512mb of memory highly recomend you upgrade at least to 1 gig or more)
6-DVDs will suck the life out of your notebook so becarefull + a little loud
7- The keyboard it seems to be crammed in when they have alot of room
8. Also the plastic on the cover isnt the greatest quality
- Other then that to tell you the truth nothing out there can beat it on the price...sure maybe a different notebook may hav been slightly better but all the cons are worth it on price....I have a few recomendations before people who are considering buying this notebook ... be warry and if you notice something wrong with your notebook call up dell and talk to them about it cause something is wrong...they can usually hlp you solve your problems...If you could get a desktop instead of this notebook please do (no notebook can beat the performance of a highend desktop that is the same price as a notebook + a desktop is more upgradeable...in most cases your stuck with whats inside the notebook...unless you want to take a chance. -
My E1705 is PERFECT. No light leakage, no blue screens. This thing is amazing. I am so glad I bought this machine.
-
i'm glad.. cause yours is top of the line right now. I forgot to mention that Sony DVD burner of Dell doesn't work perfectly, I burned a lot of stuff so when i burn DVD movies, it wont work even with data burn. The dvd drive reads things slow too.

I'm enjoying my E1705. It's not my primary system (that would be my game rig) but it does its job. I use it as a media center PC at home, then for utility on the road and office. It's a decent weight, it has great options for the price. There's only two real issues for me:
1. I have some issues with seeing the screen at angles - moreso than my old generic laptop.
2. I special paid for the OS CD, and I expected JUST the OS CD, but it still includes all the extra garbage that I don't want installed.
All in all, I'd recommend this machine... but buy Windows seperately if possible. -

Yeah I had the same question, I doubt that since I read about lots of people reformating there dells to get all the crapware off
I dont think I will reformat my e1705 but all the garbage on it is pretty annoying so I might in the future, also my 80 gig drive is partitioned into two sections 61 and 17 gigs. I dont mind it right now but once I get this thing rolling and online I will bother removing all this stuff, for now its time for F.E.A.R.

I just ordered my e1705 yesterday (the 14th). It supposed to be shipped by the 22nd, I can't wait, ha. How is dell on getting you the system on there estimated date? Its only been like 20 hours and my "order status" says its ready for boxing already.
