    120GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    Dell Draft N Internal Wireless
    Integrated Audio
    Media Direct 3.0
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Includes Microsoft Works 8
    1 Year Mail-in Economy Plan
    Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 7.0
Music Jukebox by Yahoo! Music - Basic music software
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem

I got it for $739, did I get a good deal?

I'd also like to hear from those who have this laptop or a different Dell. How do you like yours?

Seems like a good deal. What made you choose the 640m?

I have a m1210 on the way so maybe I can share how I like that later...as for other Dells I do own Dell Dimension XPS D300 but I don't use it for much anymore. It was a great computer and thats part of the reason I went back to Dell to buy the m1210 laptop.

There were 3 main reasons for getting thee 640m instead of an HP DV2000T I thought about getting:

    1) The Core Duo on the 640m vs the Core Solo on the DV2000T.
    2) The 120 gig hard drive vs the 80 gig hard drive.
    3) The price; the Dell was $50 cheaper with more options.

This is the only Dell I configured that had the options I wanted for this price.

Looks like a good buy. I have an Inspiron 8600 for 2 years now and still going strong. Never had any issues with it. But then again I treat very well. Still waiting for the arrival of my new lappy though.

Nice deal on the lappy. I have an M1210 on the way from Dell Outlet (should be here tomorrow!!!!) :D

I've had my Smartstep 250 for nearly 4 years now. It's traveled all over North, Central, and South America with me. A girl next to me on the plane kicked my headphone plug, so I had to get a USB audio adapter (Turtle Bay, works pretty darn well). I've dropped it, spilled a soda on it, replaced the motherboard myself under warranty, and it just keeps on going.

I've added arctic silver, cloned and upgraded the hard drive (twice), installed the upgrade XP Pro instead of reformatting, upgraded the memory (it can take 2 GB, but only 1 installed for now), changed the CD burner out for a dual-layer DVD burner, and installed several different anti-virus programs, firewalls, Firefox, Netscape, 3 different versions of MS Office, Open Office, Wordperfect Office, innumerable test software programs (I work on airplanes), and it still starts up and runs fine, in spite of all this abuse. The only real problem I've had with it is that I had to replace the battery 3 months ago, as it would only last about 1.25 hours on a full charge - it's now back to almost 2.25 with the new battery.

My experience with Dell has been outstanding, even with their customer support. I just hope that my new XPS will be as tough and forgiving as my Smartstep has been.
