Been lurking around here for some time now reading about the Studio laptops
I was originally going to get a Macbook but decided this was a better fit.
Now I had just been waiting for the right deal from dell and I finally found it
I paid $1,221
Dell has a promo until Monday. $425 off the system, free upgrade to a two year warranty and free 3-5day shipping.

What is all this talk I hear about Vista 64bit
and by all this talk I mean where are people getting their copies of it?
I saw one person post about it being a free upgrade
-
Hey there people are upgrading (rather doing a clean install....wiping out everything) to 64 bit because a 32 bit operating system cannot utilize 4gb of ram......so a lot of ppl, me included, download a torrent of the 64 bit system and do a clean install following the guides on this site....its quite easy and it will speed up your system. P.S. Its free because you can use your dell oem key to activate 64 bit and its legal!!!
-
Isn't the next service pack supposed to let 32bit utilize the other half gig?
Also, congrats on the studio. I'll be getting my new one the same day (hopefully without speaker problems, hehe) -
well its says 4gb in your system properties but only 3.3-3.5 of it is used as ram.....
-
Congrats.
I re-ordered mine 2 days ago because of that deal - I literally upgraded everything except the sound card and got it for 10 dollars less than what I originally paid. I only lost out on a 9 cell battery which I can care less about. The best part is the shipping date is earlier than my old order which was put out 2 weeks ago
Also got free 2 day shipping.

Nice!!!! Way to work the system lol

Me too! Scheduled my studio to be returned (full refund, shipping both ways) and the new one (with upgrades/lower price, and HOPEFULLY fixed speakers) has the same shipping schedule as yours.
Here's hoping all of our studios turn out great.
-
hi benbeck! i have the 3gb... that means i dont need to upgrade to 64 bit?
-
must be nice to live in the states and get all these deals from dell while us canucks in canada are fighting off polar bears to try and get some deals from dell
I'm looking at the studio 15 right now REALLY hoping for a deal soon in canada so i can snag one
-
well you dont HAVE to either way but 64 bit is the future so I did
-
Yeah it said free 2day shipping but when I went to checkout it was free 3-5day shipping or $12 two day shipping. I can wait an extra day or two
good to know about the 64bit upgrade
I was actually going to wait until the end of aug to see if the studios got the new centrino 2 chipsets(a little bird told me aug 14th) but then I saw this deal and would rather have my computer before the fall semester started so I went for it -
Yeah I did the same thing a few weeks back I couldnt wait
-
Oh I forgot to ask but what has everyones battery life been?
Finally did it(studio 15)
