Greetings everyone!
Finally got SP1 installed after 10 tries and 5 hours on phone to Microsoft support. The Tech had to remotely take my window files and re-register them with Microsoft! Also fixed a few corrupt files as well.
What a headache! I was to the point where I was going to reformat and re-install everything!

I got mine done about a week after it went live and love it. it's little things that you don't notice unless you think about it. i like those kind of updates.
-
Lol - I'd guess he was "re-registering" your files within Windows - ie resetting the registry settings. He wasn't "Registering" files as in reporting and logging them to Microsoft

Strange, I installed SP1 perfectly fine, in around 25 mins!
Others have also installed SP1 with no issues whatsoever...... http://itcertforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50 -
I installed SP1 the day after it became available on Windows Update (on my M1730). I've had zero issues with it so far. The only thing that crashes is Media Center when playing a DVD but that's down to the graphics driver, not Vista itself.
I installed a VMWare instance of Vista Ultimate with SP1 (SP1'd straight from the disc) and that also works perfectly.
I can only imagine that those people having problems have non-standard configurations or already corrupted installations. Maybe it's so badly behaved device drivers... who knows?!
I find myself using Vista more and more, XP and Ubuntu less and less. I'm not convinced that the imminent release of XP SP3 is going to renew my interest enough to switch. Sure, XP is very snappy on my laptop and SP3 will improve on that, but Vista is also snappy (as expected on such a machine!). -
My installation of SP1 on Vostro 1400 was pretty smooth, but I use the stand alone update exe file before it is available on Windows Update. It took over 30min and I went to sleep while it was still copying files. It fixed my BT problem after the update.

Yes, it was a good feeling to get it done!
I did not have any problems downloading - installing it on my Desk Top ( Inspiron 531s ).
Part of the problem may have been my fault. When I first tried, it showed 7 minutes into the download, then for some stupid reason, I cancled it. Then tried 9 more times and it would not download.
The Tech that helped me was really determinded to get it done! My hats off to him.
I have noticed what seems to be shorter boot up and shut down times. I don't want to miss any "important updates" from Microsoft.

I don't know if it's real or not, but I have notice a slight increase in usability since installing SP1. That is, I no longer notice myself getting annoyed whilst waiting for simple tasks to complete (file copies being the main one).
I'm still not happy at the performance of SD cards in my built-in card reader (from which I run Portable Apps for email, FTP and quite a lot else), but that may be a hardware limitation, I have not tried a good external card reader.
I have only had one crash, and that was from the aforementioned DVD playing using Media Center. I have a non-standard video driver installed, so this is my own fault. I may drop back to some more suitable WHQL drivers, as I'm not doing so much gaming since breaking a few fingers recently :-/ -
I did not notice any network connection problem after the SP1 update. I have a fairly complicated wireless bridge set up at home that I had problem in Vista every other day before SP1. Anyway, I have been using XP on my Vostro 1400 most of the time for the last few months after I got fed up with the Vista problems. Perhaps I should go back and spend more time on Vista SP1. At least, now Outlook XP works in SP1.

At last! SP1 just became available for people like me with Chinese and Japanese language support installed over the English version of the OS.
The upgrade was smooth - no problems so far. -
I have an old XPS 1710 - SP1 was never available on windows update but I stupidly went out of my way to find a way to install it anyhow. Found the download on MS's website and installed it - took maybe 30-40 minutes.
Everything worked fine until I tried to play an MP3 - while there's audio there's some stuttering here and there (very subtle but noticeable and definitely annoying).
I did some research and apparently, there is an issue with many Dell and Gateway laptops not getting SP1 in windows update because of the Sigmatel audio driver. The driver simply fails to work properly in SP1 and Sigmatel/Dell still haven't gotten around to releasing an updated driver since this problem surfaced a few weeks ago.
I tried uninstalling SP1 so as to get my audio back, but to no avail. Sadly I think I'm going to have to waste my time going the recovery DVD route...damn.
Finally got SP1 installed!!!
