.....it came with a brand spankin' new, FAILED hard drive! Incredible!! It was the 250gb 5400rpm Toshiba.

After 1 1/2 hours on the phone with tech support, they finally agreed that it was failed. After another 20 minutes and talking to two more people, I finally convinced them that for my inconvenience and peace of mind, I should receive a HDD upgrade. They reluctantly agreed to send me the 250gb 7200rpm Seagate.

I assume it was working when they shipped my PC, so I can't blame them TOO much, but man......what a let down :( I'm leaving town today, and was thrilled to receive my PC so I could take it with me. Now this.

    Just venting.....

Also, maybe someone can answer this question for me....

They gave me a reference number. Is there someway to check the status? Tracking #? Etc? The order for the HDD doesn't show up in my account, and I didn't receive a confirmation email or anything.

Man, that stinks. You know what I'd do...I'd run down to Best Buy and pick up another drive for $100 and just reinstall everything. Then keep the Dell replacement as a spare.

Hey there! Congrat's on the 1530 ~ welcome aboard! LOL.... ;)

But...so sorry for the trouble you are having with a *brand new laptop* That's not a good thing at all :nah:

To check this *ref #*, go online to Dell's site, and plug in your reference number in the *online order* status area. And, try it as a Order Number ;)

Though, it doesnt sound like you got an order number! You also need e-mail confirmation with a Case Number! Call Dell back, and request the actual order number, and the Case Number be e-mailed to you.

That way you have documentation, and your *bases covered*

    Hope that helps,

    Cin ;) :)

ah well, its cool man - you're gonna get a 7200 rpm drive. i just got my dell xps m1530 3 days ago, and everythings great...but i suspect that maybe my microphone-in jack in the front is defective because its not picking up my brand new creative fatal1ty headset's microphone... :(

I hope your Seagate isn't noisy. My last hard drive was a Seagate 160GB 7200, and it made a high pitched noise when it spins... mines must've been defective.

I have a Western Digital 250GB 5400RPM in mine and it's extremely quiet though you will occasionally here a quiet click when its writing and the fan is not on. I was very happy when I got a WD, I use WD in all my systems and never had one fail, so I was glad Dell put one in my 1530 too.

    Cin',
That worked perfect, thank you! Unbelievably, it actually shipped out within a couple of hours after I talked to tech support. The new HDD will be here monday according to the DHL tracking #. Thanks again.

It should be ready to go. My brother in law recently had a hard drive shipped to replace a failed drive in his Inspiron, and it arrived pre-loaded with a factory image. He just plugged it in and moved on.

It looks like it will come already loaded with the factory image, so all you will have to do is pop it in and you are ready to go.

I would note that if you have any issues whatsoever with drivers / performance, ect., you may want to be prepared to do some digging in to your system, or maybe even a re-format using your included install discs. It is a good opportunity, after all, to get rid of the bloat.
