Ah! Finally Dell solved the problem with their Canada website and I ordered my Precision M90. I might cancel the order for the new XPS M1710 if it comes with a non-true life LCD though.
Surprisingly the estimated arrival date is April 12th, which most likely will be postponed to sometime in May.

What'd you do, take out a second/third mortgage??? It's over $7 G's in that config! Hope you got a deal. You maybe should've got a deal on RAM elsewhere (but does anyone else even sell 2GB 667 dimms?); I think Dell's upgrade price of $3129 for 4GB is just a bit steep
Or should we be saying "haha, April Fool's?" -
Yeah! It's really sick to pay that much for a laptop! I haven't decided how to pay for it yet, but I think I'll let my VISA to deal with it.
I searched a lot for 2 gig modules, and found it only at crucial.com, but no cheaper than Dell's.

Congrats on your purchase, I'm definitely interested to hear what you think about the laptop when it does arrive. I'm not a fan of the truelife screens either and hope that the gaming performance is at the very least, the same as a go7800gtx.
-
You're going to have to upgrade to Windows XP-64 (or linux) in order to actually use those 4GB or else you're going to throw away $3000.
-
I heard XP pro can use up to 3.6GB.
Max Ram 1 appliction can use is 2GB, and 3GB if the app is designed that way. -
Do you really need the 4GB's of RAM!? What are you going to be doing with it? If your going to be gaming then 2GB's is more then enough. Unless your going to be doing some highly intensive 3D work.. you won't see a difference in performance 2GB's vs 4GB's.

Hmmm, yeah. I could get 3 of my 9400's for that, for a total of:
6 cores, 3GB ram, 240GB HD, 51" screen, GeForce 23400 go, 24x DVD+-RW, 12 USB, 3 FW, etc...
hehe -
Well... I don't play games at all. I do heavy Audio/Video projects. And I know it's crazy to pay that much for RAM but I'll need it, if I can use it! I've heard a lot about XP's RAM limitations, but if Windows can't have access to 4gigs of RAM, why are they selling 4gig RAMs with their laptops?!
From wikipedia:
The primary benefit of moving to 64-bit is the increase in the maximum allocatable system memory (RAM). Windows XP 32-bit is limited to a total of 4 GB, which is equally divided between Kernel and application usage. Windows XP x64 can support much more memory.
Now the question is how much RAM each application can use in XP Pro? I'm not going to open several demanding applications at once, so if a single application is limited to 1.8/2.0 gig of RAM, I should make a change in my order.
Thanks,

Another question. Why would you change this laptop for the XPS if you're not into gaming??? I apologize since I do not know how much memory can XP allocate to a single application, but if you really think you're going to give some us to this laptop, just upgrade to XP-64. No need to throw it away because of XP Pro.

I changed my mind. I won't cancel it for XPS. Too flashy!
