    HI,

I bought a Dell Inspiron 5160 laptop in October 2004. Two months back I got a fine line of Dead Pixel running from top of the screen to bottom. Then last month I got another one and then last week I had one more.

I can do away with couple of lines of dead pixel but it seems that they are increasing day by day. Right now I have 3 of them and there is another one which is very very faint. I am not sure why is this happening.

THe only thing that I changed in last 4-5 months is that I got a replacement AC power adapter as my original one malfunctioned twice. Does the dead pixels has any relation with the replacement AC power adapter (it is not a original Dell one) that I bought from Ebay?

Also, is there any by which I can stop the problem at this point if not getting rid of pixels? Ideally I would like to get rid of those lines but I believe it will be expensive. So I am happy if I can at least stop the problem so that no additional lines of deadpixels appear on my screen.

    Thanks

Are the lines still there when you are running off of the battery?

Yes the lines are always there no matter if I run from battery or Power adapter. The lines are from the moment I hit the power button when the BIOS/Dell logo shows up.

If you can see those lines even in the BIOS, then Dell needs to replace the screen.

Call Dell and ask them how much is it for the screen replacement, hopefully your have the three year coverage.

The only coverage I had was 1-yr warranty which came when I had purchased.

Is there any additional warranty for LCD screens?
