I did a search here & google and couldn't find anything on this topic...
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the fingerprint reader the ONLY option on Vista's login screen? Currently there are two options: Password entry & reader. I want to get rid of or hide the p/w option.
TIA.

First Why DO You Want to Remove that Bro ? if something happens to the Reader then can't login @ all , so its best to keep both of them

As vinumsv said......if for whatever reason your FP reader stops working, and you've removed the text input method, you'll have no way to get into your laptop.
What are your reasons for wanting to remove the text entry option? -
^^My guess would be for cosmetic reasons.
-
That's a good point I suppose. But I'm sure there'd be a way in. That would be step #2 to find out about
The reason is I like clean interfaces, the less amount of icons and options the better. Also it would prevent unauthorized users trying to access the notebook by guessing passwords.
[EDIT] Krazyphire shares my brain!

The potential problems really aren't worth the trade-off IMO, and honestly, how long do you look at the login screen for an extra icon to really bother you?
-
I'd just set to the manual login to something a little longer and not take it off. Tha would bother me too, I'd like the reassurance of it at least being there. Even if you could just hide it, if the reader goes bad or such, you won't even be able to 'unhide' the login button.
Just my 2c -
The FP reader can be very temperamental, you'll definitly need the password option on the odd occasion.

I have mine to accept a finger swipe and the password, my password is super hard infact I can't remember, I can only remember the hiding place I used to store it if I needed it plus the finger swipe is way cooler to do.

that finger print reader seems to be prone to misreads. I use mine on my xps m1330 and it takes about 7 tries before it logs me in.
-
I had that problem before I noticed I need to press down on it when I register my finger prints, now I can log in with one swipe. Way cool.
-
Yes, so far the reader has been very good and one swipe gets me in. Rarely I've had to swipe twice, usually because the first is too fast.
-
Is is true that you can assign program shortcuts to each of your fingers?
It would be cool (atleast the first time) to login with a swipe of the finger and then run each finger through the reader to load a number of frequently used softwares without even touching the keyboard. -
Yes at least for websites I believe.
