Hi,
I have a two year old Dell Inspiron 6400 and was thinking to use it as the base for my homestudio for recording music. I am considering buying a firewire soundcard, but I've seen the long thread with firewire difficultys affecting all Dell duo core?
So, I just wonder. Has anybody gotten firewire soundcards to work with Inspirons - or whether I better look for a different solution.
Thanks/C

Hi,
Thanks for chiming in! It's good to hear that you're both happy with your setups. I've been hesitant for a few days after reading about the various difficulties with firewire on Dell machines.
Has the problem gone the way through updates in firmware etc? Or is it still as bad as before? The thread "Firewire issue affecting all the Dell Core Duo notebooks" is 54 pages long so I'm assuming there's got to be a lot of people having trouble. On the other hand the thread started in august 2006, so I would hope the problem had been taken cared off by now.
Since I already have a Mackie Onyx 1220 mixer I was set on buying the firewire expansion card that turns the mixer into a full audio interface. Now, as I said, I feel really hesitant about investing so much in gear that I don't know whether I will really get it to work once I get it.
But, I guess there are a lot of info in that long thread about various ways of getting around the "conflicts" in Dell. Turning off dvd-player, turning off the Lan, etc... I better do my homework.
Just wondering if there's any comforting answers: "DOn't worry, you'll get it to work"
Ah well, thanks!

Hmm.
I finally sat down and read through all the 500+ answers to thread "Firewire issue affecting all the Dell Core Duo notebooks".
It seems disabling the CD/DVD-player actually get things working out alright (for most people?).
