I got a call from UPS yesterday saying my new E1505 would be shipped today. It may say in the box, but am I supposed to charge it for a certain amount of time before I use it?

Mine came with about a half charge. Just plug that puppy in and read the manual. The battery will be fully charged before you get half way finished and it's not going to stop the show as long as you stay plugged in.

    Enjoy your new machine!

Ideally, you should charge it all the way. Then let it go completely dead (make sure to turn off any power settings that will put the laptop into hibernation at 10% or something similar). Then fully charge it back up.

Some people suggest doing that 2 or 3 times in order to achieve maximum battery capacity, but I think you only have to do it once.

Yes, charge it up all the way!

Please don't confuse old Nicad "truisms" with LI-ION technology.
These batteries can be dangerous, heck we knew that ;)

    From Battery University.com

"Lithium-ion is a very clean system and does not need priming as nickel-based batteries do. The 1st charge is no different to the 5th or the 50th charge. Stickers instructing to charge the battery for 8 hours or more for the first time may be a leftover from the nickel battery days."

Yes, I know what battery university recommends. It is still good to discharge it at least one time - if nothing else just to figure out how much battery life you do have.

OK, you meant to calibrate the battery. My bad.
