I have ordered a Dell inspiron 1525 and it will be here monday.

    Heres the specs:
    Espresso Brown
    Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390 (1.86GHz 533Mhz, 1M L2 Cache)
    3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm Ram
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    250G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Now i have a few noob questions, What are the first things to do when i get it? Delete partions? reinstall vista? What other goofy dell things do i need to uninstall/delete?
Any help would be awesome thanks!

The only reason to format and reinstall Vista would be if its working slow with all the bloatware installed. In my case my studio was working great even with the bloatware, so I just went to MsConfig and prevented all the useless software and services from starting up with windows. These startup programs can slow your laptop down considerably.

I would recommend a format and reinstall only if you want to install XP on it.

i bought the exact same config for my mum, but with 2gb ram and smaller hard drive. The only bloatware i can see is the antivirus trial, i just uninstalled it. Overall im really happy with the system, I used it my main machine for a week while waiting for my precision to arrive, really satisfied with it. I had no idea even the cheaper dells were so stylish too...

how much did you pay for yours? With the 3 year warranty mine was 700usd.

i dont think its a good idea to delete the partitions. If you like, format the recovery partition, but keep 2 partitions in case you want somewhere to store files while you reinstall windows in the future if anything goes wrong. However if you prefer to write a dvd or something then this does not apply.

So i guess you could delete partitions and reformat, and install a better antivirus? I recommend the free avira antivir. its frugal on resources and a highly rated antivirus.
