    HI everyone,
I recently discovered this awesome forum - this is my first post. I just bought a new Dell Latitude E6510, and for various reasons I'm selling it off. It's been unboxed, but I haven't switched it on. The new owner will take a week to pick it up. He is, however, cool with me using an Ubuntu Live CD to check out the system until he picks it up - provided he sees the "Dell First Time Use" screen when he switches it on.

So here's my question: I'm assuming that the "First Time Use" screen is a OS (windows) feature, and by using a live CD, that screen wont be triggerred. Am I right in assuming this?

Also, I need to be doubly sure I dont "accidentally" boot to Windows while attempting to boot the Live CD. What's the interrupt-to-BIOS key (e.g. Esc/Del )on Dell?

Any other comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,

    Budihala

The boot menu shortcut is F12, and booting off a live CD shouldn't mess with the factory image... but I personally wouldn't mess with it.

Now that I think about it, there might not even be that "first boot" screen anymore...

    Thanks, Commander, for the reply...
I'm now quite apprehensive about messing with the first use screen... if anyone is reasonably sure that the first use screen is a 'windows only' thing, then only will I attempt to use it.. otherwise it's perhaps nto worth it...
Looking forward to more opinions on this.
    Cheers!

Yes, they still have the "first time use" screen and it is a Windows only thing, so using a Live CD shouln't mess this up. If you really wanted to, or if you know how, you could even boot into Windows to play around with it. Then when you're ready to give it to the new owner, just restore it back to the factory state using the recovery partition. This will restore things to exactly the way it was before, making the "first time use" screen appear again. The user probably wouldn't even know you used it.
