Finally it is here.![]()
The screen turned out to be a Samsung (SEC3157), not a Toshiba as I feared. No light leakage. But vertical viewing angles are little disappointing. However colors and horizontal angles are good. Here are some quick photos.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I had the samsung on my first M1210, and really wish I had it on my current one, I found it much better than my AOU. Viewing angles on a screen that small are going to be tight no matter what.
-
Are your viewing angles better? Just curious.. Anyways I think I can live with it. Happy that I didn't end up with a Toshiba
.
Finished reinstalling Vista. I just noticed that my Vista experience index is only 2. "Desktop performance for Windows Aero" is 2.0. I didn't look in to it seriously, but I've seen M1210s with 3.5. Just curious, I don't really care about some stupid Vista experience index anyways.
It is pass midnight now. Will do more testing/posting tomorrow

The viewing angles are about the same, the main difference is the colors were much more vivid, and images and text were much sharper.
Thats a surprisingly low score, what component is holding you back? Your total score is the score of your slowest component. My desktop has a score of 5.1, Due to my cpu which while older, is still quite viable. -
What should a M1210 score be?
-
There isn't going to one value for the Vista Experience Index on the m1210. It's going to depend how you unit was customised!

T7600 2GB 667mhz 100GB 7200rpm go 7400 Camera wireless intel 3945
Does that help? I am trying to see if it is even worth an upgrade. And if it works ok or still too many bugs in Vista. -
Phonix - I'm glad you're happy with your new notebook.
That 2.0 Score is the base score on every new vista installation. Make sure you retest it after you've plugged in the battery into the wall.
good luck and that's such a beautiful computer.
bling bling on the touch pad ROFLMAO!! -
and please do tell us how you like the notebook so far and what your impressions of the build quality is. thanks!
-
Glad you like it.

I have a T7200 Processor, 2GB Ram, 120GB 5400 HDD, all of which scores more than 4.5, except for the graphics card. Graphics: Gaming performance for Windows Aero = 2.0 (hence the low score), Gaming graphics: 3D business and gaming graphics performance = 3.4. I have latest nVidia graphics drivers installed (Forceware X 100.30). It ws 2.0 even before installing any drivers. In display tab of dxdiag, Approx. total memory is shown as 554MB ! Why is it using so much of system memory? can that have something to do with the low Windows score?? I thought maximum is 256 (64 dedicated + 196 shared)
Build quality feels good, no complaints. Speakers sound little worse than my previous XPS M140 (Inspiron 630m) but that is understandable given their tiny size. I like the shiny border around the touchpad and the MediaDirect buttons, but Im afraid that the paint might peal off over time (Since they are painted plastic and not some sort of a polished alloy). The lid is very susceptible to fingerprints as some of the reviews have pointed out, BTW how do you guys keep it clean?
Coming back to the screen, despite vertical viewing angles I think it is pretty good. Text is very sharp and colors are also good (better than my previous notebook).
Ive done a lot of research on this model. So no surprises, just what I expected.
I still havent done any serious benchmarking, therefore dont know the actual numbers. But general Vista experience is quite smooth. -
A dry cloth, or even your shirt, can clean the finger prints off the lid.
-
Normal fingerprints yes; but oily ones are pretty hard to get rid of with a dry cloth.

Actually that makes sense, it would score higher for aero if it had 128MB dedicated memory. I wouldnt worry about it.
Vista handles the video mem a little different than XP, My desktop shows 751 total graphics memory, and my card only has 256 dedicated. Its dynamically allocated, so its only used when needed.
I wipe the whole thing down with anti static cleaning wipes from work about once a week. A weekly blast of compressed air into the vents and keyboard is a good idea too. -
256 dedicated ? How come ? I thought all M1210s equipped with Go 7400 had 64 dedicated + 192 shared ?
-
Congrats Phoenix on your new laptop

Thats correct, if you reread my post you will see that I'm not talking about my M1210, rather my desktop system with a 7900GT. -
Oh sorry, I didn't notice the word desktop
-
overall are you happy with your purchase? would you say it's money well spent?
-
I would be more happier if it had the AV package. However, no regrets so far
.
BTW I reinstalled the drivers and updated the experience index, now it is 3.4 (still graphics card is the lowest, but I guess it sounds just about right for a Go 7400) -
i get 3.4 as well so no worries there. Exact same config as you.
-
What do you think about the m1210 weight wise?
-
The weight is 2kg according to reviews with a 6cell (I didn't weigh it my self). I used to carry around a 2.6kg 14" notebook, therefore me it is an improvement. But for a thin and light (ultra portable) notebook user or for someone who is very concerned about weight, M1210 may feel a bit heavier.
-
can u post soem more camera clicks of your new system. congrats on ur new purchase, please post some images fo it, and some screenshots of it running vista.....i did not still get it coz vista hasn't reached here
EDIT: BTW, can i use ur avatar as mine tooo, request....i'm a big 1210 fan...
