I have managed to resolve the issue with my inspiron 1720, but I already have Dell's repair return box. So... should I contact tech support and tell them that I wont be sending the computer in or what?

I'd guess so. Just make sure the issue isn't going to resurface.

Well it was the issue with the buzzing/whining CPU noise coming from the speakers and headphones, which I managed to fix using the RMclock solution. I haven't seen any reports of the problem coming back after people have done that so I think I'll be all right.

Ok guess I'll get on chat with tech support now so they aren't sitting waiting for my laptop.

This is really relieving that I don't have send my laptop to Dell for repair, I'm sure you've seen the stories of what can happen o_O.

    Thanks for the reply.

Have only heard one story with repairs actually, and that was when the technician came to someones house. Might have to send my lappe away and I might accidentally get sent a 1730...
On topic I'm sure tech support will be sweet with you getting in contact with them, all the times I have contacted them they have been very understanding.

Ok yeah, just contacted tech support. Went perfectly. Don't have to send them the box back or anything.
