    Hello all,

Let me begin by saying I'm a first time poster, long time reader of this site. The information here is priceless and you all helped me previously decide on a laptop for school / gaming.

    Here's the problem.

Every evening before I go to sleep, I turn my computer into sleep mode so it's not running all night. But Recently I woke up to the 3rd light down on the right hand side (a picture of a battery with a lightning bolt) Flashing Reddish Orange. It used to be a stable blue light all the time and out of nowhere it has started flashing and won't stop.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I hope it doesnt need a new battery seeing as how this laptop is only 7 months old. Its performance has been perfectly fine, never shutting down, never overheating or any crashes.

I have minimal components installed. Vista, 2 MMORPG's, some Microsoft products for my computer class I am taking and just misc. pictures of friends and family.

If you need additional specs for my laptop to help me troubleshoot please let me know so I can try to find them for you all.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Rob

It sounds as if your battery ran itself down. Make sure the battery is pushed in all of the way and make sure the power adapter is firmly connected. If it is your battery that has gone bad, you are covered the first year you have it.

That does indeed sound like a battery. But it also sounds like you leave the system plugged in all the time, which is usually not a good thing. Since it's only 7 months old though, just go in Dell support chat and tell them about it. Pretty sure they should replace it.

Leaving your laptop plugged in all the time will not affect your battery. They have circuitry so that they do not overcharge nor will they keep recharging if the battery is drained a little.

Ok, so thanks for all the replies.

I woke up this morning after seeing if MAYBE the battery needed to discharge and it completely died. My laptop will not work unless plugged in because it can not charge the battery. I will be calling dell and demanding a replacement battery this afternoon.

Thank you all for such fast replies.
