I rented one for about 3 weeks, what I hated about it was the 1250 intergrated card in it that chugged on WoW on low settings. It has the X3100 in it now, which will chug on medium settings :-D

Hated, intergrated graphics. Loved? It was a laptop for time being.

Great design. Got the "Commotion" pattern. And the huge screen. The settings are good enough to take care of most tasks... except for gaming because it has no video card options. :(

Anyone else here own a 1525? Got the "Commotion"? :)

Got the commotion pattern here too and i love it. It literally makes heads turn. Whether they think it's ugly or not, at least their heads turn, lol. I love it a lot. I leave my heavy gaming on my desktop so the integrated video card is not actually a problem for me. I agree about the touchpad though. No matter how high the sensitivity setting, it still sometimes fail to recognize a tap/double tap at times. I had the cheapest speaker configuration, which is really bad. If your in a room all by yourself, I guess it's okay, but when your outdoors, the sounds around you will mask out the sounds coming from the speaker. Good thing there's a free creative earbud and I have a portable usb speaker. Oh, and when I hold it vertically when closed, the lid opens about a quarter of an inch, I mean when it is lying on a flat surface it's fine, but when you hold it upright, the lid doesn't really close very tight and the screen is a bit wobbly too when open, but overall, it's a very decent machine. I got a 3 gig ram system so it runs vista very smoothly for me. The above things I mentioned are just some minor hiccups, one with proper configuration really isn't a problem at all, but overall, it is a great machine. Mine doesn't heat up too much. I have a 9 cell battery sticking about an inch at the back, but the battery lasts 5-6 hours in high performance setting, which is really what I want with my notebooks, anything less than 2 hours battery life for me is a no no.

I dont own one, but I set one up for a buddy and got to play around with it for about a week. Performance, design, weight, display, keyboard..all superb. My wife liked it so much, she's thinking of selling her 1521 and getting one. Quality was exceptionally well on this machine. The only thing I didnt like is the fan constantly kicked on, and was quite loud; even when not running any apps it would sometimes kick on. Probably a heat issue with the machine, so I told him about it. Havent heard back on if he followed up with Dell about it or not. Other than the fan (which may have just been faulty with this machine) it seemed rock solid.

I ordered my wife a 1525 shortly after I got my 1420. I dislike the lack of video card options for it, integrated graphics are not my thing, but all she plays is wow with me so it wasn't a biggie. I myself, liked the price I paid for it, $680 is a deal on decent laptop nowadays. She says she likes the blossom pattern the most...women...hehe

What is the difference between the 1530 which everyone raves about and the 1525 or 1526?

I see the 1525&6 on the outlet for some great deals. Saw one fully loaded with bluray burner for under 1100 bucks! However, I don't see the 1530 on the outlet site... soooo what's the difference?

Please let me know as I need to get a new laptop asap

the main difference is that you can only get integrated graphics on the 1525, so if you game, it wont be good for you. if you don't game, then there's pretty much no reason to get the 1530 over the 1525

First of all, the only difference between the 1525 and 1526 are the processors and video card, the 1525 uses intel for both processor and video, and the 1526 uses amd and ati. Now the difference between 1530, if you are referring to the xps 1530, and 1525/1526 is that they are from different lines wherein 1530 is more expensive because of a more aesthetically pleasing design and the wider range of choice such as a better video card, but a limited color choice. If you are talking about the 1520 then it's mostly of the design changes made, which resulted to the 1525 and the addition of an hdmi and the deduction of a video card choice.

The fan does kick on from time to time and does get a little bit loud, but I personally am not a bit irritated by this as long as it gets its job done, which is keeping my notebook cool and so far has. As compared to my previous notebooks (especially toshiba and gateway), which heats up quite a bit especially when I leave on top of the bed and when running overnight, I haven't had any problems overheating so far. The only time that I've experienced a noticable increase in temperature was when I ran a scandisk on boot, which is fairly justifiable as to the load the harddrive is experiencing at the time.

I believe that is due to vista because out of the box the power button on both the start menu and the main power button is set to sleep. To set this right click the power icon on the taskbar and go to power options. Then choose change plan settings. Click change advanced power settings. Click power buttons and lid. Change power button to shutdown if it is in sleep. Also change the start menu power button to shutdown.
