The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. Seriously? Only the black looks good. The other two colors just look weird -if you're going to make something with a red/blue palm rest and lid, why's everything else black? From those pictures, it looks like someone stuck some colored stickers to the palm rests. They just don't blend in well.
Then again, they're stock photos so I'll reserve some judgment until real world pics are available.
The Gateway also has HDMI... thats nice. But only lists 1280X800 Res. The gateway also offers a biometric fingerprint reader. With discrete graphics, the dell still has the edge. But HDMI is pretty important for many. I am sure that they will offer some better GPU later on. It looks like Dell won by getting to market first with the best GPU in class for the 1420. This is nice but won't see me canceling 1420 just yet.
EDIT... Just called Gateway sales. They said the T-140 (T stands for Travel) is meant for travelers so they chose NO discrete GPU.. to keep it lighter and cooler. I mentioned to the man that the Dell 1420 weighs the same with nvidia card. This is a pretty huge mistake I think. From what this rep said.. the T-140 will never have discreet GPU. And from the configurations that people posted in the 1420 thread.. thats bad.. I would say that over 80 percent from the forum are ordering 1420 with nvidia option. I also mentioned to Gateway that Dell offers both X3100 or discreet options.. thus they appeal to a much broader market. Even the nice looking new Sony CR only comes with X3100 graphics. I think Dell was really smart by offering a higher res screen and discreet GPU.. Now if they add HDMI to the 1420 it will be complete. Its the only flub up on the Dell at the moment.
LOL@Gateway. No offense to them really, but they have been making **** computers since day one and have NEVER been recognized as a "omg I want a gateway". Horrible brand..not saying Dell has anything to brag about over them, but gateway is just terrible lol..it's the next name after the packard bell (ROFL, just saying those 2 words together makes me giggle.)
Gateway is like the Mitsubishi of computers..hanging on by a thread.
i think dell has much more to brag about than Gateway. Look at dells marketshare to gateway's. in the end, thats what counts, and No ONE has it but dell
i figured a bunch of people have pointed this out and i dont feel like reading too much..but all i have to say is YAY "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100" /sarcasm
The only reason I said it like that is so no once could say "Oh wel wtf does dell have ect ect"..This had nothing to do with dell, it mainly had to do with the fact that gateway sucks pure ass, and if someone told me a gateway was the last pc left on the planet, I'd demand a recount.
