When I first received my E1705 like 5 days ago, it came with the Windows Media Center Edition with the Version 2005. I noticed how it had a somewhat different style versus the Windows Home edition.

However, I formated my laptop use the Windows Media Center Edition Operating System CD which CAME WITH my laptop and was packaged with the E1705. So how come it is the 2002 version. Is that a mistake because I am suppsed to have the 2005 version.

I have run Windows Updates, but it didn't update my 2002 version to the 2005 version, so is there anything I can do or SHOULD do? Help please, thanks.

Give Dell a call and explain the situation.

I looked into when I noticed it, and it seemed like the year had more to do with OEM levels rather than features or improvements.

That's less than definitive, but it was my general impression of the situation.

I also had this same problem when I reformatted my e1705 with the Dell Restore Discs. I havent encountered any differences yet though...

OK...I learned this from when I owned a Toshiba Satellite 5205. It had the original MCE version 2002. In 2004, an upgrade to MCE 2004 became available from Toshiba for $19. Many of us purchased it. AFter upgrading...we were all infuriated with the idea that nothing happened...WRONG! Many drivers were updated...video. sound...you name it. The engine had been improved. Now...to show you what version you have...do the following:

Go to Accessories...Media Center and Open Media Center...Once there...choose SETTINGS...GENERAL...ABOUT MEDIA CENTER...SOFTWARE VERSION...

The one on my month old Dell E1505 reads:

Windows XO Media Center Edition 2005
    Version 5.1.2715.3011
    Update Rollup 2
    Copywright 1985-2005 Microsoft Corp...

That is the only way to know...I found this out from a Toshiba Tech a few years ago...

Hm, wow thx for noticing that Bobmitch. It does seem to say I have the 2005 version.

Only reason why though that I brang this up is that before I formated my computer, Logging out from my computer seemed more like the Windows Professional style. Whenever I click START menu, and LOG OFF, the menu WOULD NOT bring me to the option to switch to another user, it just said "Log off now?"

Also, Before I formatted, whenever I went to START > Turn Off Computer, it would give me several more options like Hibernate and a couple others. Now it just says "Stand by" - Restart, or Turn Off.

Any explanation for that? Otherwise, thanks for at least showing me that I do have the 2005 version, but since I was told Windows MCE has professional features, is it possible to use the security features on some other accounts on the computer?

There is a hotfix to add the hibernate button back as one option when you turn your computer off, you also will have to edit your registry but its nothing hard. look at this link and it shows you how to do this: http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkontherun/2006/07/put_the_hiberna.html I have the hotfix you need, but its too large for me to upload here.
