Ok here's my problem.. I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled XP. When I go to advanced power management I set the settings to do nothing when I shut the lid to my notebook. However, when I do actually shut the lid the computer then turns off. Before I formatted the hard drive I did not have this problem. I am running Windows XP on a Dell Notebook Inspiron 1200. I've googled this problem and have run into any quick fixes. Perhaps one of you might be able to help? Thanks a boodle.

Do you have Dell Quickset installed? That also has power management utility that might be conflicting with your laptop.

You also need to make sure that you don't have the laptop set to turn off under the Power Schemes Tab. It is possible that the laptop might be set to turn off after 15 minutes, etc.
