    Hi Guys,

We just picked up a used Inspiron 1526 running Vista Home. I have always had good luck with buying used laptops and normally format them when I get them. This time maybe different since I don't have a copy of Vista to re-install. I was told that it will come with the rescue disks that were delivered with it though. My question is, will those disks include everything for a complete install (I really doubt it). If not, what can I do after a format short of buying a new OC--probably go to WIN7. Any thoughts??

Finally, any hints or tips with the new machine--I'm going from a D600 Latitude that I really like.

    Thanks!!

All my Dell have come with all the disks necessary to fully restore all the software that was available when the machine was first purchased.

So that should help a little. My Inspiron 1420 came with a system restore disk, a disk with all the drivers, and two more disks with the DVD burning software and MS Works.

O.K. Thanks!! Sounds like I can format and just re-install then. I may give Dell a call just to confirm I have the correct disks though.

    Thanks!!

If you don't get the right disks, then it isn't going to be so bad. The drivers can be downloaded right off the Dell website. The recovery disks though, you are going to have to order them. No idea about the trial software, although, something tells me you can download them off the respective developer's websites.

Not really concerned about getting drivers--that I can d/l as you point out. Mainly concerned if I cannot restore Vista after I wipe the hard drive. I may look into the feasability getting rescue disks with Win7 if I have to purchase disks. If that is even a possibility.

    Thanks!!
