Well, I decided to give it a few days and look into all the options.
This is the second M1530 I have had, both with dismal audio. I have tried every combination of setting and power setup and all of that to try and get the static out of the audio; nothing has worked. I finally decided to return it today and out of the blue I was put to a guy at returns who knew about the problem and told me what was causing it (None of the tech support guys knew anything about this!!!). Turns out he was a DJ and had found that with the wifi turned off via the switch below the flash bay, he was able to get rid of all of the static, and so am I!
The problem I have now is that the majority of my use of this machine is going to be with the wireless turned on, especially in my new apartment starting next week. I have gone back and forth with this switch and find that there is no static with the wireless turned off.
Has anyone else had this problem specifically and found a workaround? As it stands I effectively can not use the speakers for anything while the wireless is enabled.
If I decided to keep this thing now I can get a $400 credit for the dell.ca webstore which is pretty nice, but is it worth never being able to listen to music (even with headphones) at a wifi hotspot?
I hope someone has a solution for this because dell does not!
Thanks,
Speedy responses appreciated because I need to get this ironed out as this is my only day off this week!

Haven't had the problem, got my 1530 yesterday, speaker's is doodoo but there's no static or anything, they just sound weak.

any ideas? clock is ticking on open hours of customer service!

You could buy an external sound card like the Creative X-Fi Express card or a USB sound card.
Or you could buy an external wireless card and use the onboard sound. -
already covered those bases. An external sound card prevents use of internal speakers, and more or less the same with the wifi card. Was hoping someone had this problem and found a workaround without using external devices

Unfortunately, the speakers on the 1530 are absolute garbage. The static is a known issue, and nothing has been done about it. The only thing I can suggest is to try updating to the latest BIOS release (A08) and see if that fixes the problem at all.

I don't bother with ANY notebook speakers! I use headphones or ear buds.

You can't use headphones or earbuds with this static issue - I cannot, at least not acceptably.
Found the audio problem!!! Anyone have a fix?
