    Free Flip Video Camera w/ Studio 15

    First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong area. I debated whether this was an actual Studio related question or not.

    I ordered my Studio 15 on July 29th with one delay already and I anticipate another delay on Monday which is my second Estimated shipping date.

    I was browsing dell.com and I noticed that they are offering a free flip video camera with the purchase of the Studio laptops. I figure if Dell is going to delay me again on Monday, I might as well cancel my order and re-order it again with the free flip video camera.

    My question is, is it worth the trouble? For those of you who own one, how is the video camera? I've never owned a video camera before. If it's a good deal, I suppose I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for my laptop. My desktop seems to still have a little life left in it so I think it'll last until September.

    Wow... I swear I was JUST about to make a thread about this lol.

    I ordered my studio on August 26th and it got delayed and I received it this past Monday. I saw the ad for the free flip camcorder that came with it and I called today.

    I spoke with a Dell rep and explained that I should receive one since they advertise you can get one with the purchase of a laptop. Although I have had my laptop for almost a week they still sent me one free of charge. I got an order number and it should ship next week.

    I think you should try and get one as well. They look pretty cool. If you go to youtube the have plenty of reviews for it. I am going to be studying abroad in the fall so I really needed something like this and I cant wait for it to ship.

    I say go for it. You should not have to cancel your order though. See if they can send you one without having to reorder anything.

    Wow. Thanks! I will definitely call them. I'd hate to have to cancel my order. Hopefully, I'll have the same luck as you and they will add it for me. :)

    An update for anyone who is interested.

    I called them this morning. They would not let me add the camcorder no matter how hard I tried to convince them that it should be added without creating a new order. :: sigh :: So I ended up just canceling my old order and redoing it this time adding the free camcorder.

    My new ESD is September 4th. It's not too bad I suppose in the long run. It allowed me to change my configuration a bit and buy a few extra things, like a color coordinated mouse. I still got roughly the same deals as I did when I first purchased a Studio in July which is good. I'm just a little annoyed now that I probably won't get this thing until the end of September, but that is my own fault.

    Arggh..sorry they wouldn't do that for you.. :(

    Usually once an order is in the build process, no changes can be made w/out having to cancel, and reorder. :eek: :cool:

    It's too bad that they couldn't do a separate order for the Flip Video Camera..but that's my way of thinking...as a consumer LOL ;) :)
    As, it seems like it would be a separate order to start! ;)

    The good thing, though as you stated ~ You are getting the S15 with the configuration's that you now want, your getting the vid camera, etc...

    Sorry you have to wait til 9/4 though..Remember that's an estimated shipping date ~ *Dell always over-extends*...and you could very well get it *sooner than the latter* ;) :)

    How are they shipping? Overnight or standard?

    I thought they might have been nice to me since they delayed my order so much in the first place, but nope. Maybe the computer I canceled can allow someone else to get theirs earlier depending on how far in the "build" stage the laptop really was.

    I agree it should have been a separate order, but they said I had to order it at the same time as I did the laptop for the promotion to take effect. It is shipping separately now though so I'll have it by Wed. or Thurs. this week.

    I've been reading some reviews around the net about the flip camcorder (I keep wanting to write Flip Phone for some reason) and it seems like a good product so I think I made the right choice. Although my desktop is getting slower and slower to start and yesterday it actually said "Back up your harddrive. Disk Failure is Imminent"! :eek:

    I chose 2day shipping because it was free.

    Hey, no prob's...just think you will be getting your lappy soon! Maybe it will even ship before the ESD.

    And, yes it would've been nice if they just added the flip camc. as an extra invoice for free (they just don't see a customers POV at times) :( Oh well, things will be alright for ya!

    I think you made the right choice, also!

    And ouch...keep an eye on the desktop... :( ;0

    does anyone know when this deal for free flip was released?


    i ordered my studio 15 on the 7th and it wont be here til maybe sometime next week, but i want a free flip camera!!! im gona call dell and bug em for one.

    I'm pretty sure it was offered back in July with the XPS, but I'm not sure if that offer extended to the Studio line as well. I didn't see anything with the Studio in July, but I may have just overlooked it back then.

    I highly recommend getting the Flip Camcorder. I received mine recently and its so easy to use and the video quality is pretty good for the basic stuff, like youtube videos or a video blog.

    The only thing I'd say is DO NOT use the zoom in feature. It makes the video quality horrible. I made the mistake of filming a duck pond in zoom the whole time and I had a hard time seeing anything I shot clearly during playback. Just pretend there isn't a zoom feature.

    Good luck! Hopefully your experience with a Dell rep. will be better than mine.

    what the hell they said if i want it i have to send my dell back (which i have not received yet) and then order it under the same specification as the promotion... i dont want to wait another month lol

    aww. You got the same run around as me. :( If it makes you feel any better if you do reorder it now, it might come faster? I reordered mine on the 17th and its coming on the 26th.

    they already shipped my first order so i dont feel like waiting to get it then ship it back and reorder since im going off to college 3 days after my laptop would get here, oh well..

    I ordered an M1530 two days ago and it's in the production stage right now. However it wasn't with the Flip offer.
    So today I just called Dell at 1-800-964-8321 and pretended like the Flip was supposed to be in the order from the beggining, and they just added it to the order.

    So I guess this could work with a Studio as well.

    Hey, they did this while your order was in the production stage??? Usually, any changes to an order (add, deletions, etc) will cause the order to be cancelled and you would have to reorder!

    Did they give you a Case # for confirmation and e-mail it to you?...Showing that it was indeed, *added*??? Is it being shipped separately..so there is a separate order number for it??? You really need that case#/conf. info to back yourself up ;)

    Just some thoughts for you... ;) and if it did indeed work...Wowsa! and Congrat's on that! :)

    I wasn't really expecting it to work, I just wanted to give it a try, so it's no big deal if it doesn't.

    Anyways, the rep said he added the camcorder to the order (said it'd ship with my laptop), and then I asked him about a free carrying case I heard they offer, and he said he'd work on that too and send me an email when he was done.

    So far nothing in my inbox, but I'm hoping :)

    Well, I hope it does work for youze *fingers crossed*....I, personally would still get that case number related to the conversation....you know..just for *backup*, even though..it's not a big deal to you if it doesn't work! ;) :)

    But alas, you will cross that bridge when you receive your 1530! :D

    It all depends on who you talk to. I've heard people getting their shipment upgraded or some other free things just because they called up and complained about something. Unfortunately I was never lucky enough to get the nice ones. lol

    Ok, so free shipping was definitely upgraded, I can see that on my order.

    And free flip camera was shipped separately and should arrive in about a week. Apparently it's "in production" right now...

    What I did was send my rep an email with the link to the promotion. There is one for home & home office:

    lol ive tried so many times thru email, chat, and phone to get one but they refuse to so i give up.. oh well, i found a deal online where u can get one online for 50 dollars anyway but i dont really find myself needing one, its just cool to have if its free :p
