I went to the dell website and there was this sentence which said 'Express upgrade to windows vista when you buy a new dell laptop within a limited period of time'.Is it true?Anyone bought a new dell laptop during this time?

My wifes laptop just arrived yesterday. It has the information on how to get the free upgrade. You can't order until late November, and it won't ship until its publicly available (read january).

Well, when you select the current OS in the dell configurator, you get an option to select the version of Vista that you want. You have to explicitly select one.

I think that you pay $10 for shipping if you upgrade to the comparable vista version. As already mentioned, they dont ship out till Vista is available for non business folks.

The real question will be, will I be offered (on my wifes) the ability to upgrade from XP Pro to Ultimate for a price. I'd pay extra to be able to upgrade to ultimate.

Otherwise, she'll just have to be happy with Vista Business when it arrives.

No, and I don't know. Depends on local retailers and how generous MS is feeling in january.

My laptop gets here on Wednesday. It's coming preinstalled with MCE and a free upgrade to Home Premium once I pay the $10 S/H fee. I too hope there will be an option to upgrade to Ultimate at a discounted rate say in the $100~$150 range. If not, I'll stick with Premium.
