Im having the grainy screen problem (among others) with my m1530 and so far ive spent 4 hours on the phone with dell over two days. I havent made much progress, just thrown around from department to department.
Once i DO get it all worked out, do any of you think theres a chance Dell would give me a free processor upgrade or something for all my troubles? Because i expect to spend many more hours on the phone with these people![]()

As per the op's question. I don't think they will give you a processor upgrade. But nobody deserves to be treated like trash from Dell tech support. If they constantly do not submit and you really lose a lot of time to get your LG screen, then press for compensation. They will most likely only give you a $100 coupon although it would be a drop in the bucket for your troubles.
Returning the item is a possibility, but, if this is the laptop you want then make them give you what you want. You shouldn't have to return something you wanted and look to another laptop brand. Nor should you have to exchange the laptop if everything else is ok with the laptop and the only problem is the screen; because there is a possibility there would be more cosmetic problems with the exchange - you don't deserve that hassle.
Hope that helps. -
Generally the answer is no. Dell CS reps are not allowed to change the original configuration when getting you a replacement. Sometimes however, if you really went through hell or if you had had to bear some severe problems due to mistakes on Dell's part, they may offer some upgrades (but I have never really encountered processor upgrades or anything. Usually its 1GB of RAM extra or Vista ultimate, or something small like that...)
Ooh and about the taxes comment...imagine having to pay taxes in two countries with more socialistic forms of government, between which there is no tax treaty....I loose about 70 percent this way... -
As for the OP's question. Send it back if you're not happy. You're going to spend countless hours communicating with Dell staff trying to get a LG lcd and there's no guarrantee you will succeed.

Two. Maybe the op is out of the 21 days status and it is very difficult to get a replacement unit from dell. They would much rather send parts based on my dealing with them. -

I said the same thing and when I found out my 3rd replacement was shipped with a Samsung I ordered a LG from Dell Parts. I could not spend another 10-12 hours dealing with Dell.
When the M1530 arrived it had a LG in it even though the service tag says its a Samsung so I cancelled the order.
Good luck -

I got M1530 with the LG in it so I cancelled the order for the LG LCD from Dell parts.
So you were lucky and you wrote a guide about how lucky you were. -
Personally, I think it's worth asking. "Entitled" or not, you aren't entirely happy with your Dell purchasing experience, and as long as you do it politely, I see no harm in giving them a chance to make it right. I don't know what your odds are of any particular upgrade (processor or memory or other specs) but I think you'll probably get something.
Basically, he who doesn't ask, doesn't get. And this is especially true if you won't be returning your machine since it probably costs them less to throw something your way than to accept a return, take it through the refurbishment process and then sell it on the outlet. -
Samsung shot themselves in the foot for designing the screen, Dell is going to choke on this from people such as DRTH_STi and LiTh07 who will do nothing until they beg successfully for that LG screen. I guess they love the XPS design and performance so much that it blinds them with the fact that there are plenty of other laptops in the market.
The BEST way to make Dell correct their failures is to RETURN the system and NOT to buy it. That will make them take action so fast that it will make Michael Dell turn his head.
The steps you take to get a LG screen is ONLY a win for those who have plenty of time on their hand and nothing else to do in life. They spend 4 hours+ to be on the phone, they wait for the part, they have to get it installed and finally you have to wait and see if nothing else is effected... make sure nothing else is a problem with the notebook. Sorry, I don't have that kind of patience or dedication to a company's product to believe it's "worth my time" to wait.
By the time you received your LG screen, you could have purchased another brand laptop with same quality if not better at the same price if not lower. Have spent tons of hours working on it or gaming on it and with time to spare to do many other things. Yet... you wait for the LG screen, hallelujah! More power to you though as this is the land of the free, that's just something I would do if I had no other laptop choices to pick from. Awesome. -
Ok everybody you have been warned yesterday in a similar thread but you don't seem to understand what I've said. Once again, I've had to delete many posts.
I've given some small infractions but next time they will definitely be worth more points.
Thread closed.
